ATLANTA (AP) — Prosecutor announces charges against Atlanta officer who shot Rayshard Brooks in the back after confrontation.
Ok, great, but charged with what? Seems to be a pertinent omission.
From CNN, felony murder and 11 other charges.
Shooter with felony murder, carries death/life in prison sentence. Other with aggravated assault. Second has already agreed to testify against shooter, it seems.
The Atlanta officer who fatally shot Rayshard Brooks in the back after the fleeing man pointed a stun gun in his direction will be charged, a prosecutor said Wednesday.
With what? The headline says “Prosecutor Announces Charges….” and there are no charges in the article. Did whoever wrtie the headline read the article?
Okay, thanks.
One in a million
Apparently the other officer on scene has turned states evidence
My husband was reading the NBC online site. It reported that after he was shot, the second cop turned him over and the murderer kicked him. Kicked him! The second cop is a cooperating witness, according to the report. Good.
I hope our congressional rep, that do-nothing Tim Walberg, loses in November. Just read this letter to the editor by a resident who is calling out his blindness to police brutality and racism after hearing an interview he did.
To the Editor:
Racism and police brutality are on our minds a lot these days. In a recent radio interview, the 7th District Congressional Representative, Tim Walberg, indicated that the death of George Floyd was caused by a “rogue officer” and the failure of bystanders to physically stop the officer who was killing him.
His response exemplifies how racism is perpetrated. Walberg is a white male.He is able to easily ignore the many, many other examples of dead Black men and women at the hands of the police because they do not impact him directly. As a result, he seems to insinuate that George Floyd’s murder was an isolated incident, rather than another example of a crisis in America.
In the interview, he further goes on to say, “I would not have stood there and allowed a police officer to do that type of atrocity without acting myself, at the very least jumping on and pushing him off, and then laying on the ground myself, hands outspread, and saying, ‘I give up.’ But you’re not gonna kill a person who’s handcuffed and laying on the ground.”
He blames the Black bystanders for not physically attacking the group of four armed police officers. If you have compassion or any understanding of the racism crisis in America, it doesn’t take much to understand why any citizen—particularly a Black citizen–would not attack a group of armed police officers. It’s not rocket science.
There would be no chance for a Black citizen to lay on the ground with his hands out. He would be dead. Others would be dead. And the death of George Floyd would be blamed on him too.
We need to dismantle racism in America. Tim Walberg’s message is that law enforcement does not play an important role in racism, and that it is the responsibility of Black individuals to stop racism when they see it. He could not be more wrong about this. His ignorance will continue to perpetrate structural racism and put our communities at risk.
Tim Walberg is a relic and we need big changes in Congress. It’s time for us to vote Tim Walberg out of office.
That man does absolutely nothing to earn his salary. He needs to go. We’ve been saddled with him because of gerrymandering, but that will soon change, I hope. He also represents Hillsdale, and we’re right on the edge of his district. We couldn’t be farther apart.
From my view of the video, it looked more like the officer had his taser out and then after Brooks missed the officer thats when he switched over to the gun and shot him.
This is the reason why so many cops are quiting in the last few weeks, they are getting charged for shooting black men! WTF, that used to be one of the jobs fringe benefits! Worse yet with all those BLM protests the temptation to shoot someone is barely bearable…
Upon further review, I think you’re correct. Post deleted.
Yet still no charges against the officers who killed beyonna Taylor
And he basically aimed upwards and missed the officer by more than ten feet to one side. The officer was not in danger from the taser anymore when he fired off three rounds towards Rayshard’s back. Two of the three hit him in the back…
OT:
They were in error on the 8 minutes and 46 seconds that Chauvin had his knee on Floyd’s neck. They were off by a minute:
I don’t know which story is right, but this is how Paul Howard, (prosecutor) described it:
A second officer with Rolfe, Devin Brosnan, stood on a wounded Brooks’ shoulder as he struggled for his life, according to Howard. Brosnan was charged with aggravated assault and other offenses but is cooperating with prosecutors and will testify, according to the district attorney, who said it was the first time in 40 such cases in which an officer has come forward to do this.
Rolfe was fired after shooting, while Brosnan was placed on leave.
Added:
You’re right, The officer did kick him after shooting him and the second officer did also step on his shoulder as he lay on the ground.
From the NYT:
The officer who killed Mr. Brooks, Garrett Rolfe, faces 11 charges, with prosecutors saying that he shot Mr. Brooks twice in the back and then kicked him as he was lying on the ground. Prosecutors said Mr. Rolfe also declared “I got him” after firing the shots.
So Walberg missed the whole incident in FL a couple of years ago where a black male therapist was trying to prevent one his autistic clients from being shot because the client had a toy truck in his hand. The therapist was shot by SWAT, but survived. He was laying face up in the street, with his hands in the air talking to the police that responded to a 911 call. He was lucky that he didn’t die.
Just like to see the defenders of Chauvin hold their breath for 7 minutes and 46 seconds.
Makes no difference if it 8 minutes, 46 seconds or 7 minutes and 46 seconds. he’s still going to be convicted of murder.
Chauvin had no reason for pulling Floyd out of the car in the first place.
There wasn’t a reason to put him in the car either, or to handcuff him.
If the other officer is taking a plea and testifying against him, it’s much more probable justice will be done. And use reactions to this case to root out more of the rest.
The results of the Breathalyzer test indicated he was just barely over. The limit is 0.1 and he blew 0.108
He could have challenged it in court. It was not an automatic conviction. Those Breathalyzers can be off.
If they had tested him 40 minutes earlier, it would’ve been higher.
He moves to arrest Brooks after the Breathalyzer test; while he doesn’t tell Brooks the result, the machine displays a 0.108 in video captured by Rolfe’s own body camera.
