From this point, Cartter said, people with flu-like symptoms, certainly in the southwestern part of the state, should assume they may have COVID-19 and act accordingly.

There’s no reason to worry. We’re operating under the bold and decisive leadership of President Trump. Every angle has been examined and every alternative has been considered!

“The stockpile is there and we hope that it is adequate,” Verma told CNN.

Thank goodness for the National Ventilator Stockpile.

I’m in Liberty University country in VA on business.
Having lunch at one of those franchise restaurants - Friday’s or Applebees (I cant tell).
The bar seats about 30. I’m the only person in the entire restaurant at 1 PM on a Friday.
Maybe Falwell could ask Jesus to declare the place virus free.

“It’s stunning” and “nonsense” to assert that the U.S. has a sufficient stockpile of ventilators to care for the potential spike in novel coronavirus infections in months to come, said Dr. Irwin Redlener, the director of Columbia University’s National Center for Disaster Preparedness.

I was at Costco the other night, and witnessed actual wagering on suburban shoppers fighting over the latest shipment of ventilators.

It was ugly.

(But I won almost $100.)

Related if a bit OT: am currently on the Canary Islands, heading home to Germany tomorrow.

Just found out that all of the harbors on the islands here were closed down at midnight last night. Also German news is reporting that all pubs and clubs in Berlin are closing down.

Our flight home appears to be on time, but we were in town this afternoon and things are quite empty. Most restaurants here during siesta time (when the shops close and everyone goes to eat) are pretty much empty at the moment. Quite a contrast to a week or so ago.

ETA: justread in the Guardian that the Spanish government (Canaries belongs to Spain) is going to activate some clause in their constitution to restrict movement of people and vehicles tomorrow. Our flight is tomorrow. Now on tenterhooks as to whether we can fly out or not… :unamused:

(Over 4200 cases and 120 deaths…)
