President of the American Postal Workers Union Mark Dimondstein on Thursday called it “truly shameful” that President Donald Trump would “hold the post office hostage,” amid the coronavirus pandemic in an attempt to suppress and discourage Americans from voting.
Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf and his deputy Ken Cuccinelli are ineligible to serve in their current roles because their appointment violated federal law, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) ruled today.
“What we’ve seen in a way that is unique to modern political history is a President who is explicit in trying to discourage people from voting.
"What we’ve never seen before is a President say, ‘I’m going to try to actively kneecap the postal service to discourage voting and I will be explicit about the reason I’m doing it.’”
Where are the congressional Democrats who should be screaming about this every day?
Where are Biden and Harris?
Can’t there be a court injunction to stop this?
This is election treachery in broad daylight.
Trump’s plan is diabolical. If he “wins”, I will not accept him as my legitimate President, as none of us should. What that means in terms of real world actions (other than participating in massive protests), I still have to think through. I’ll have to brush up on my Ghandhi and MLK.
What do we say about this article from 2016? All of Obama’s nominees for the USPS Board Of Governors were blocked by Sen. Bernie Sanders, so that when Obama left office there were 8 empty seats on a 9 person board and those positions ended up being filled by Trump. The USPS BOG is the only body that can fire the Postmaster General. And they are packed with Trump loyalists because of Bernie.
Nobody but those who already sing in the choir watches O’Donnell. Either this guy and what he has to say get coverage beyond O’Donnell, prospect.org and Common Dreams, or we don’t get an enraged and engaged public.
Trump is trying to destroy the USPS and he’s capable of doing irreparable damage. This is critical, and not just an election issue. From last May:
