The mayor of Portland, Oregon, was tear gassed late Wednesday as he stood at a fence guarding a federal courthouse during another night of protest against the presence of federal agents sent by President Donald Trump to quell unrest in the city.
This will not play well. All this is now is the stuff we saw back in June. You have law enforcement being called out and publicly shamed for harsh and unjust tactics, and then they get triggered and beat, gas and shoot the public. This is tyranny and people fighting back against it.
I hope the Mayor (who has been on tv) fully makes the rounds. This should be the top story of the day imho. We need to firmly push back against Trump and eliminate any political advantage he hopes to gain here.
I already saw garbage put out by the Trump Admin insisting the mayor was LETTING all this happen…because you know…BLUE. However, I hope this nails Donnie’s little campaign plan right in the … whatevers. This is unacceptable and shows it is a PEACEFUL protest provoked and incited by federal agents to look like something else.
My guess is that Kailey McANinny will claim that the mayor himself was demonstrating, and that this is proof that “Democrat” mayors are orchestrating violence against Americans, and, specifically, to hurt her Lord and Master, Donald Trump. They will twist this into whatever mockery of truth and justice they can imagine, knowing that the base will eat it up.
Our job is to not let them get away with it.
It’s time to lob a few teargas canisters Rump’s way. He’d have the SS pounce on the demonstrators and be whisked off to safety.
I’m impressed that the Mayor stood his ground. That to me was more significant and defiant. That kind of resolve is what Rump hates because he doesn’t understand courage.
Until they start arresting the Feds on state/local charges this really isn’t going to change. But given the tacit if not outright support of the local police I doubt that will be happening anytime soon.
The function of the police in any government should be to protect, not rule.
Those seeking to become–or to remain–members of the police force should keep that in mind.
If their motivations are the latter, then we have a serious problem in these United States, in Portland, Philadelphia, Albuquerque, Chicago, NYC or anywhere else.
Because that would mean that the goons are really reinforcements, instead of invaders.
