Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s lack of a formal statement addressing global protests in the wake of George Floyd’s death reportedly has not sat well with diplomats.
At this late stage, Pompeo & co have an audience of one, and an aim of not saying anything which will hurt their future of fat directorships and cushy lobbying jobs when it all comes crashing down.
What a disgrace to West Point and his parents who spent the money to send him there. He’s not saying anything because he’s up shit creek anyway and is boxed in. If he says something sensible, trump will melt down on him too. Says nothing, buys him some time, but for what? No one is forgetting the last couple weeks much less the last couple of years. He’s doomed, he knows it, and is trying to find a way out, which he will not find. Lock him up, lock them all up.
Clearly, not upsetting Hair Furor is factor, but the fact that he can’t muster up any kind of statement regardless would indicate to me that he lacks a general sense of empathy. This seems like something of a perfect storm for a sociopath since they can emulate sympathy when they need to, but when faced with sustained, genuine outpourings of empathy, they struggle like fish out of water. Given the ease with which Pompeo was able to ingratiate himself into the inner circle, he seems to be lacking in certain emotional departments and that could further color his (lack of) response.
Diplomats Fume Over Pompeo’s ‘Deafening’ Silence As Protests Spread Worldwide
What do you expect from a Secretary of State who, along with his predecessor, has presided over the dismantling of the State Department and purposefully directed the loss of American influence throughout the world? He’s following the lead provided by the Divider in Chief BLOTUS IMPOTUS. It’s been said before, but this is just another manifestation of what can be observed while binge-watching the Fall of the Roman Empire. How long did that actual fall take? The Orange Menace has progressed so far towards that goal in not quite 3.5 years.
I think everyone has to constantly remember that we simply don’t have a functioning executive branch. Everything, from inadequate testing for Covid to lack of diplomatic response from the Trump cabinet flows from that.
Question: Is the “deafening silence” really any worse than what would come out of Pompeo’s mouth? Or Trump’s reaction if he decided he didn’t like what Pompeo said because it wasn’t strong and dominating enough?
