Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reportedly turned down now-former State department Inspector General Steve Linick’s request for an interview in his investigation into the Trump administration’s billion-dollar arms sale to Saudi Arabia.
This is really about the IG looking into Pompeo’s grifting. New reporting from NBC that he was spending $100k+ “6 figures” on taxpayer funded hidden dinners with major republican doners and media figures.
IG sent an inquiry, was promptly fired. Pompeo knew this was coming along with the investigation about using staff for personnel errands and tasks.
This is grifting on a whole new level. Trump will fire him within a month, as the heat gets hotter, and hotter.
Why? Republicans will turn on Pompeo as the theft is just too brazen, and Pompeo provides a change in subject from Trump claiming he is taking HCX with his sniffed adderal and his claims that having the highest death and infection counts is a “badge of honor” - a quote that everyone in America is going to hear 50 times between now and November. If you are collins, Tillis, Earnst, McShilly, Gardner, Purdue, Moscow Mitch, Cornyn, you have to be loyal to Trump, but you also need something to claim “I was draining the swamp” as you wallow in said swamp, and this will give them a scalp they can use to claim they are “independent”
Do you know of any American administration where so many of the key figures lied so constantly, about matters ‘great and and small’? There never has been: and never will be, an administration as corrupt as this one.
State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said the dinners are “a world-class opportunity to discuss the mission of the State Department and the complex foreign policy matters facing our exceptional nation.”
“Invited guests have included many foreign diplomats, thought leaders, academics, government leaders at many levels, business leaders, Members of Congress and the media — each of whom has a stake in America and its leadership in the world,” Ortagus said.
She added that Pompeo “has benefited greatly from these gatherings as he has gained knowledge listening to his guests from all across the political spectrum and all around the world.”
“Foreign policy-focused social gatherings precisely like these are in the finest tradition of diplomatic and American hospitality and grace,” Ortagus said. “The Secretary looks forward to continuing these Madison Dinners as they are an important component of the execution of his duties as Secretary of State.”
Morning Joe reported this morning that only 14% of the guests were foreign and American diplomats. They also reported that information from these taxpayer funded hidden dinners was forwarded to Pompeo’s wife’s private gmail account for campaign use.
Also his wife was using the State Dept. email service on the taxpayer’s dime for personal use. But, but, but…her emails.
I’d say that the hypocrisy that these lying pukes do daily is astounding but I’m afraid a whole lot of Americans have become inured to their bad acts and criminal behavior. This is like Ben Carson’s wife buying expensive diningroom furniture on the taxpayer’s dime for their personal offices ramped up to 11. They all engage in the grift. That’s how they manage to stay in good standing with the Grifter-in-Chief.
I actually think trump hates people in his maladministration grafting. He sees it reflecting badly on him, and it is all about him. Plus it highlights how Pompeo is not so rich, and trump wants to associate with rich folks, as he is always trying to pretend he is rich.
Remember what happened to the Wyoming crook at interior or that Okey grifter Scott Pruitt at epa? Same deal will happen to Pompeo, just wait for the heat to turn up.
That’s part of it. The other part is, Pompeo did all of this to advance a Senate run that he isn’t taking. He lost his own start party’s backing, and as a result, they have put what should be an incredibly safe seat in jeopardy.
That’s the sort of crap that makes it easy for republicans in office to turn on him.
The question/problem for them now is, how much splash back is going to hit Trump? Running fundraisers on the tax payer’s dime they can probably keep that all on Pompeo. But Trump/Kushner have their sticky fingers all over the SA sale. That’s more problematic.
There is evidence to support that. Whether its he gets annoyed at the bad press that it brings his way, or if he hates the appearance that he doesn’t have any control over his underlings, or if he gets mad that he isn’t getting his beak wet, is still up for debate.
He doesn’t hate those people, he just hates it when they get caught (probably a sign of weakness in his eyes). Then he tries to pretend he doesn’t know anything about it when most of the time he does.
He long forgot the honor code, if he ever knew it to began with. Esper (sec of def) is almost as dishonest, the difference is he looks uncomfortable when he lies. Pompeo is a natural at it.
