The thing is…when things go sufficiently bad with Iran, and they will because ETTD, the most likely person to bear the brunt of Trump’s wrath and will probably have to walk the plank, is Pompeo. Of course, that would make him too damaged to run anyway.

It’s possible that he’s Bolton-blocking.
If we are to have war with Iran, Bolton is the logical person to run it for the stable genius, who would have trouble running the night shift at a McDonalds without an assistant night shift manager – even if he and the assistant were the only two people on that shift. SecDef is taken, as is Bolton’s old job (maybe just by an interim, but the interim seems to have gotten Trump’s favor). State is the logical remaining place from which Bolton could be the architect of fiasco in Iran. But if State isn’t empty because Pompeo hasn’t left, where do they put Bolton?
Announcing his willingness to talk under oath about the Ukraine affair seems likely to be a not very subtle hint that maybe they need to find a place for him in the administration so that he can more plausibly claim that, sadly, he is no longer free to testify because he now once again serves at the pleasure of the president. If this is Bolton blackmail, it suggests he will only settle for a top job somewhere. Where else but State?

I’m not holding my breath but if there was any time it was going to happen I think it would be this year.
They swing back and forth fairly regularly from Democrat to Republican in the governorship and there is a Democrat at the moment.
Main reason for that is because the Republicans with Brownback kind of made a mess of things on the state level the past few years and paid for it.
Whether that translates to the national level or not remains to be seen.

Iran is probably going to drop their first nuclear bomb on Kansas. Pompeo put a big bad crosshairs on the state with his assassination option that Trump just couldn’t resist. I suppose the state was going to be unlucky any ways you look at it with Pompeo as its Senator?

trump will be holding a rally at the Wildwoods Convention Center in New Jersey on January 28th. He picked this venue because it’s the district of Democrat-turned-Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew.
I suspect that venue won’t be quite as friendly as the ones usually selected by the trump campaign.
