Pompeo Ignored Top Officials’ Warning Against Using Emergency Declaration For Controversial Saudi Arms Sale

Nice metaphor. Thanks

That’s what I thought when I first heard it.

The shady territory where Trump and the military cross paths may be the darkest place in history right now.
Cigar-smoking, single-malt sipping evangelical admirals and air-force commanders with dutiful wives and sexy secretaries are using Trump like an ATM machine.

This is a scandal exactly of the type and magnitude of Iran Contra, and it is scarcely even registering amidst all the other failures and scandals. Stick a fork in it–America is done.

Do you have a macro for that? May I borrow it?

Actually if you recall Trump himself was reasonably proportionate until he got, what, into his fifties?

They’re not nearly as cute either.

That depends on whether or not his dry cleaner is a Saudi Prince.

I don’t recall, actually, because I never paid attention to the orange baboon before he came down that damned elevator. Someone should have cut off the electricity right then and there and saved the world untold degrees of suffering.

Pompeo definitely has the pompous superior thing going. He reminds me of Dick Cheney when he postured so authoritatively whenever he spoke, like he was the adult and everyone else is a child.
His stuffy prejudice that he considers some sort of conservative gravitas is more than laughable these days, it was wholly knit from fiscal conservative cloth in the Tea Mania, and now that he’s helped create the biggest debt in U.S. history, it will always ring hollow.
And he has no moral ground to falsely claim any more, Trump’s so sleazy, his own people laugh at the suggestion he is moral in any way. They LIKE his sleaze. It is one of their private jokes they tell each other.

What does the guy who played in Run For Your Life has to do with this? Why are you dragging Ben Gazzara’s name into this. Oh, wait, never mind.

Tl;dr: It’s astounding how short a bench the GOP here has re candidates who are electable in state-wide races.

I’m not a Kansas Republican, but I will say that I’m watching the very public flailing-around the party’s been doing before the August primary with slack-jawed amazement. When Kobach announced, the party told him publicly, if politely, that they’d just as soon he not run. They’ve been encouraging two of the four candidates, who are polling badly, to drop out of the race so that the party can, maybe, unite around the non-Kobach candidate, Roger Marshall, to defeat him in the primary; those two candidates have refused to do so. And now McConnell’s been trying to help out by promoting Pompeo as the party’s savior.

The party leadership is officially still in thrall to the Sam Brownback taxes-are-evil “philosophy” of government, but moderates are in the ascendancy here, and they’ve allied with Dems on important issues like a Medicaid expansion bill. The leadership knows all this, but they’re more committed to ideology than to winning an election . . . yet Kobach, the very guy running for them who best fits their bill, is toxic enough in this state that they fear they’ll lose enough Republican votes to allow the Dem candidate, Barbara Bollier, to win the seat. And Democratic governor Laura Kelly and her adminsitration have, by all accounts, handled the pandemic quite well, so people here have some sort of context for seeing how Democratic leadership works when it comes to the decidedly unsexy-but-crucial issue of governance.

Yes: Kansas is conservative, but the state has had a long tradition of government that does what governments should do for their residents. The Brownback administration is a real aberration in that regard; the people still running the show for the GOP, though, either cannot or will not acknowledge that. Pompeo, if he were to enter the race, might win in November; but as @bankerpup rightly points out, if he’s the best non-Kobach option for the party, that is all kinds of sad.

It took a while before the Iran-Contra scandal became public knowledge.

If you don’t think that Jared, †Я☭mp, and Pompous took a bribe to make this deal happen, then you haven’t been paying attention. Let’s hope Linnick, or some attentive †Я☭mp-hating Swiss bank employee, is following the money.

From West Point’s web site…

The emphasis on personal character is to support the West Point Motto - " Duty, Honor, Country " - and the ideals of the seven Army Values: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage.

They certainly did a bang job with top of the class graduate Mike Pompeo.

Pompeo graduated at the top of Kellyanne’s advanced deflection class. all of his responses are either outright lies or snide non-responsive mumbo jumbo. he barely edged out Bill Barr for valedictorian. and then you get to talking about unbridled arrogance …
