Saw this story on Maddow last evening. Apparently Captain Baker agrees with the murderer that killing a bunch of Asian women is a great stress reliever after a really bad day.

GA GOP legislator:
This tragedy could have been prevented by an angrier good white guy with a gun. I hereby propose this legislation which would provide funding for anger enhancement training for gun owners. Also, it would require that all poll workers in GA be angry and armed.

Right?! It reminds me of all those people who still to this day claim that George Zimmerman was attacked by Trayvon Martin. They’d accept the word of an admitted murderer than to just admit the obvious racism. Anything but that.
Totally. Plus, my understanding was that he was headed down to FL to continue his killing spree. If he was targeting sex workers in general he could’ve found plenty in Atlanta, but he was looking for Asian women specifically.

Not in Cherokee County. Republicans won there like by 50% points. The place is full of gun-worshiping Christian Talibans. They had some local ordinances targeting illegal immigrants and mandating home owners to prove gun ownership. There are gun shops all over the place, I even saw a shop that had a sign outside about “Boiled Peanuts & Cheap 22 ammo”.
That is the reason Capt. Baker wanted to make the murders about about “sex”, to distract from the suspect’s well document obsession with guns (second favorite thing after pizza), the fact that he could just go and buy a gun for the purpose, and the general anti-immigrant sentiment of the place.

CNN did a write-up on the named shooting victims. They included a husband and wife at one of the locations for a couples massage.
The more the shooting is discussed, the more there are people out there buying into the “sexual temptations” part and classifying these three locations as being ones that offered illicit sexual encounters. While it’s possible that some were, it shouldn’t take the lead. I have seen a number of times, in multiple articles about the incident that “he may have frequented the locations” that clearly aren’t referencing for a massage.

But they are among the easiest and most widespread. They are everywhere, including in the nice, affluent, white suburbs. Hell, when I lived in Roswell, there used to be one a couple of buildings down from the Roswell Police Department.
Atlanta has plenty of strip clubs, but almost all are extremely tough on girls hustling out of their clubs…they don’t need the additional risks and don’t have to take it. The “lingerie modeling”/jack shacks are pretty much contained to just Cheshire Bridge. Street walkers are mostly on the south side of Atlanta. But Asian “massage parlors” are EVERYWHERE in the Metro Atlanta area.
