Planned Parenthood Immediately Takes Iowa’s New Six-Week Abortion Ban To Court

Planned Parenthood of the Heartland went to court Wednesday to block Iowa’s six-week ban, a product of a one-day special session marathon on Tuesday Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) had called for the sole purpose of passing abortion restrictions.

Planned Parenthood Immediately Takes Iowa’s New Six-Week Abortion Ban To Court

They had to do it quickly, because it would not be allowed after six weeks.

First the Republicans screw their voters and then they ban abortions.

I love the fact that one of the plaintiffs is the Emma Goldman Clinic, named after a woman who was an anarchist and championed women’s equality, free love, workers’ rights, free universal education regardless of race or gender, and anarchism.

You see something funny about women being denied their bodily autonomy, Danny Despicable.

The petitioners write that the ban would have blocked 92 percent of the abortions performed by the regional Planned Parenthood in the first half of 2023 and 99 percent of the ones performed by another clinic petitioner

This actually sounds like a challenge to the Iowa Lege to rewrite the statute so it bans them ALL.

Please. He wasn’t making fun of women being denied their bodily autonomy. He was mocking the absurdity of the ban.

Personally, I think that @dannydorko’s comment is one of the most clever that I have read on these threads in a long time.

You and I have a difference of opinion about how to discuss women’s rights. I’m serious as a heart attack when it comes to preserving them, others see it as one more opportunity to crack wise.

And if you think that I’m not, you are greatly mistaken.

That’s not what I think, it’s another user’s comment I despise.

The wit of the commentary of @dannydorko should never, ever be confused with finding egregious situations “funny.”

restrictions must be evaluated under the undue burden standard

Republican politicians have decided that pregnancy is not a burden.

If these misogynistic GOP bast*rds want to ban abortion why don’t they just change the Iowa Constitution…Oh wait. They can’t. Because an anti-abortion amendment would have to be ratified by a majority of the voters. I wonder if that is possible?

There are few things more unfunny to me than glib comments about repro rights.

I didn’t think it was glib. I thought it was pretty spot-on.

I’m pretty sure I’m entitled to my own opinion even if it doesn’t match up to yours or anyone else’s.

Yes. You do.

But you go far beyond holding an opinion. First you call Danny a “dork” (which you had the good sense to delete), then called him “Despicable” and then said you “despised” that poster. Could it possibly be that this goes beyond just having an opinion on your part? And maybe, just maybe, you read the comment incorrectly, especially in light of the fact that others who are as sensitive to the issues of women rights as anyone read the comment completely differently than you did?

Just maybe???

The clinic is very important to the community. Aside from abortion they provide an array of health-care services. If I remember correctly it also provides services on a sliding scale based on income.

Being serious as a heart attack does not mean abjuring humor. If you believe it does, you lack empathy. Instead of posting irrational and nasty remarks to fellow members, next time I suggest you first count to ten … trillion.

This is a very emotional subject, and people can too easily misunderstand comments and/or the writer’s intent.

So let’s take a step back. Let’s put this particular disagreement (about the intent of a comment) to rest and move on.
