A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. Questions His Allegiance D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro savaged a sitting federal magistrate who had chastised her prosecutors for their conduct in yet another case where a grand jury declined to indict. In a screed…
Major news outlets continue to struggle to distinguish their coverage of legitimate criminal investigations from the politically motivated “probes” of the Trump DOJ:
These outlets need to take a look how writers like Beth Mole over at Ars Technica report factually on the administration’s action without sane-washing or normalizing what is clearly not status quo behavior.

Each of the cases, Sherman said, attempt to push the boundaries of what’s allowable by “brazenly violating the law”.
“He’s attempting to do things knowing that it’s illegal, knowing it would have to go to court to be challenged,” he said. “It is monumentally stupid.”
But it also presents a significant challenge for individuals and organizations forced to sue, Sherman adds – and for the courts themselves, which must keep up with the volume of lawsuits.
“They are breaking laws that are clearly written and understood, and it’s creating strain on other institutions who are struggling to keep up.”
…
The ultimate decision on many, if not all, of these cases will probably be made by the supreme court. With its rulings on presidential immunity and other key conservative opinions, Trump has “indications from the supreme court that, despite what the law says, he can do what he wants,” Sherman said.
“That has informed his approach since he’s been back in office,” he added. “He seems to be unencumbered by what the law is and what the law requires.”

When this is over, the Trump Judges will all need to be removed if we are to regain democracy, otherwise, each one is a dangerous land mine ready to blow the legs off progress.
Oh goody! We’re gonna send jets to Puerto Rico to sink more boats
Next we’re gonna grab Venezuela’s oil…
They were civil rights lawyers, Social Security employees and labor experts. And now they’re all in completely different jobs. To fill vacancies left behind by waves of firing and resignations in the Trump administration’s overhaul of the federal government, agencies are reassigning people to posts they know little about. That includes people who were forced out of jobs that are required by law or are essential to basic government functions, according to interviews with 20 federal employees across seven departments, most of whom spoke to The Washington Post on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution. …
The result, employees said, is that work is being done less efficiently by people with little relevant experience or background, even if they have spent years in government in other positions. One former IT worker at the Social Security Administration — newly reassigned to disability benefits processing — described the changes as “leaving a Bugatti in the garage” and “a strategic decapitation of institutional knowledge.” …

Analysts have warned that US aggression in the region will have serious unintended consequences, including the possibility of being drawn into an extended guerilla war in Venezuela.
“I increasingly fear that the Trump administration may stumble into an intervention scenario in Venezuela, which would be frankly disastrous,” Juan González, the national security council’s senior director for the western hemisphere during the Biden administration, told the Guardian this week.
“It’ll become the cause célèbre for every kind of criminal or illegal armed group in the Americas. You’ll end up having people going to Venezuela to fight the Yankees and I think it’ll get messy.”

Most Americans still don’t know that alcohol can cause cancer — and the alcohol industry is working hard to make sure it stays that way.
For the past three years, the industry, aided by its allies in Congress and later the Trump administration, has sought to discredit and eventually bury a major analysis that offers new evidence of the link between drinking alcohol and getting sick and dying from various causes, including cancer.
Just take a look at the fools, drunks and MAGAts who are leading these agencies. Are you surprised? This is all part of Project 2025; “drown the government in a bathtub.”
The signs were there. But some were buried.
Headline we should be reading:
Amy Coney Says She Doesn’t Know What A Constitutional Crisis Would Look Like.
It’s fascinating when someone both says the quiet part out loud, and admits that they are the problem. Well done Amy. The best part is, she’s lying. If a Democrat were doing any of these things she be all over it like stink on shit.
Some people need to be in jail for this.
As to Roberts having to fend off Miller’s lawsuit, I’ll remind him of Colin Powel’s Pottery Barn rule: if you break it, you buy it.
Say what one will, but one can’t question Pirro’s loyalty to Captain Morgan.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice John Roberts is actively fighting off a lawsuit by a legal advocacy organization founded by Stephen Miller that seeks to declare that the administrative and policy-making arms of the federal court system are a part of the executive branch in a below-the-radar attempt to strengthen President Trump’s hand over the judicial branch.

And report it as is, hook, line and sinker. Stunning admission? How about wild ass claim?
