Thatâs just horrifying
My folks and sister are all in the be-prepared-level evacuation zone.
Fun fun fun fun.
At least everybody already has masks ÂŻ|(ă)/ÂŻ
I donât see any FEMA funds coming to us. My nieceâs husband is a firefighter here in CA, this is no joke.
Not to downplay the risk (unlike the cheerleader-in-chief), but arenât most Americans in the prep-for-evacuation-possibility-on-November-4th?
Holy shit. How did these start this time? Right wingers trying to punish liberal CA?
One of them started at a gender reveal party that had pyrotechnics gone wrong. It was not deliberate; just stupid.
I will never understand the self-indulgent fucktardery some couples engage in I suppose. Did they buy a puppy first so they could pretend it was their baby for a couple years and see how it works?
Wind has flared up over the last few days here in the Sierra Foothills. I think Bear Fire north of here was a flare up of a fire that was waning earlier. Power has been off pre-emptively for the last three days. Just came back on along with connection to the outside world. Ah, the internet, what a concept! Yesterday was like Mordor around here. This photo is from 3:00 PM in the afternoon.
ETA: This was being passed around but just found out credit goes to Wild Places Photography.
Itâs almost beautiful in a âwell, at least the end of the world is picturesqueâ sort of wayâŚ
When it gets historically hot, and historically dry, for a historically long time, wood catches fire and burns really fast and hot. Combine that with an excess of fuel accumulation from decades of fire suppression, and here we are. And we are only at 1 degree C. Gonna get worse before it gets better. If it ever gets better.
Saw lots of people just standing outside looking up with a âis this how it endsâ look on their face. It was certainly breathtaking and beautiful in the awe it inspired.
3PM in the Bay Area and our street lamps never turned off all day. Temps are in the low 60âs, a nice change from Monday when it was 106. I hope that helps the Firefighters. Itâs as dark out right now as it usually is a half hour after sunset.
Jeezus are we trying to SHOOT THE FIRE TO DEATH? (I keed)
My sister is about 3 miles from an evacuation warning zone for the Creek Fire. Sheâs started taking pictures off the walls and getting animals ready to leave. Kinda unnerving.
Probably part of the paradox of the fires with the smoke reflecting/absorbing a lot of the sunlight, so less heat from the sun ends up reaching ground level.
Yes, and the Idiot in Chief is going to start talking about raking the forests again.
Cry Cry Cryâs song about the Mann Gulch fire. A doozy.
I have friends in Northern Cali (including Santa Rosa) who have had to evacuate with past fires, with family members losing homes. No evacuations for them this time (but eerie end-of-the-world orange skies and power outages), but not so sure about my friend in Clackamas, OR who I canât get in touch with.
In WA -lightening, downed power lines due to high winds, some are under investigation. We are burning on the sides of the mountains.
