PHOTO GALLERY: Morocco Earthquake Kills Thousands - TPM – Talking Points Memo

The Sept. 9 earthquake that devastated Morocco has killed nearly 3,000 people and left many more homeless, according to the Associated Press. The United Nations estimates that 300,000 people were affected by the temblor. The epicenter of the 6.8-magnitude quake was in the High Atlas Mountains but felt nearly 45 miles north in Marrakesh. Moroccan authorities announced a three-day mourning period, and neighboring Algeria offered to allow humanitarian aid through its airspace – a significant move since Algeria severed ties with Morocco in 2021 over a number of disputes

Thanks TPM and Joe for this photo curating. It’s sad but compelling.
Would be a good meme if Bobo was standing in the middle of devastation asking “Do you know who I am?”

I took a long journey of self discovery as a 21 yr old in 1970. 8 months on the road from Madrid to NW Pakistan. One of the places I visited was Marrakesh. I marveled at the Jamal al Fna square in the middle of the old part of town. I have those beautiful red sandstone building in my memory. It’s so sad many are destroyed now.

A tragic reminder of nature’s indiscriminate fury…the floods in Libya equally horrific…blessings to those dealing with the aftermath…

It’s an incredibly sad event. Even more horrific is the dam break in Libya! Are we getting much pictures of that devastation too?
