He figured out it was supposed to involve nukular, then promptly ignored that part entirely in favor of trying to get contracts for his oil, gas, LNG, and other hydrocarbons buddies. Which was just as well to leave it to people who have some concept of what they are doing.

The sole reason that Perry hasn’t already gone away is that Drumpf thinks “Energy” = Oil = Texas.
I have never met the Governor, but I have worked with people who have worked with him. By pretty much all accounts, he is just as dumb in private as he is in public.

Cabinet appointment by trolling is one of the things Trump does really well. He has perfected the art of finding exactly the wrong person to fill any post. Perry followed a renowned nuclear physicist into this role and acquitted himself exactly as one might expect - like an ignorant, immoral politician who could never pass algebra and hates “eggheads”. He saw it as a means of enriching himself and his oil buddies. No funny here, just tragedy - not even sure Molly Ivins would be laughing on this one.
