I suspect Trump took 2 years to complete one, which explains the confusion. Who knows without a transcript.
Penn Professor Renews Call To Investigate Trump Admission To Ivy League School | Talking Points Memo
I’m 1000% sure he got in in the exact same manner as a few recent prosecutions. His old man paid for the admission. Directly to the university alum society, direct bribes to faculty/admissions, or the old man paid for a library building (seems to be a favorite)…
A goodly portion of the GOP would have to be smart enough to know that a degree from this school means something. They don’t have the IQ to process this level of education.
Really? 1966? Do these professors really think that all admissions to their school are based upon legitimate effort and merit? I served on the Admissions Committee at a top 5 Medical School in the 1970s. A retrospective audit revealed that at least 10% of he admitted students had entirely bypassed the admissions committee. At the Faculty meeting, held to discuss this, many members forcefully defended the practice of selling some admissions to the highest bidder. No sanctions were imposed, and no admissions cancelled. The only change was to decrease the members of the committee, to reduce the chance of future questioning. The Wharton School can learn nothing more and do nothing more by “investigating”.
The toxins have permenantly & malignantly altered their DNA…
It is even worse than Mad Cow Disease …
I know what you mean – but you know this is the kind of thing that gets under his skin.
I have no time for it myself but if someone else does …
Penn has excelled in building its endowments.
But their hiring of Emanuel Ezekiel is a home run.
he got into University of Pennsylvania because he had somebody take the exams.
Just as he said about cheating on his taxes, trump would reply, “That makes me smart,” and his idiotic anti-intellectual worshipers would of course agree.
It’s probably true that he cheated again, but I don’t think it will change anyone’s vote.
His cheating is widely known. He even cheated on his third wife.
Will Penn alumni organize about this?
Well, that depends.
They can’t ask the school to release someone’s grades without consent. That’s simply not done.
They can ask the school to stay away from anything related to Trump once he’s no longer in office – a presidential library, for instance – but I doubt this would take much convincing.
Did you have some other action in mind?
“broadcasts to prospective students and the world at large that the playing field is not equal, that our degrees can be bought, and that subsequent fame, wealth, and political status will excuse past misconduct.”
This is very well written – and while it is true in higher education (and also true in other sectors of our society), an “SAT Truther” movement would become just another sideshow distracting from Trump’s catastrophic failures in office. Higher education is such a piñata these days, that not only would any revelations have zero impact, but his crimes in office are of much greater severity and significance.
1966 …while it was Ivy … and it had credibility
It was not quite the ultra ultra exclusive prime choice … the neighborhood had a sketchy rep … and … at the time there were many many “Legacy” admissions … 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation candidates … or the son of a wealthy & generous donor … (Penn hungered for money … they did not have a lush campus so they needed fine facilities)
Somewhere around 1970 -71-72 there was some turmoil about “Legacies & kids of fat cat donors” and there was some hard-nosed shutdown of that path to admission … (have a friend who was fully expecting to be a 3rd generation Penn guy in 73… there was a building on campus with the family name … but … no! Penn suddenly got strict) … this only lasted for a short while … until some building needed to be funded …
Bottoming… Trump had shitty grades … had really made a poop fest at Fordham … Fred made a huge donation … got Donald in … and secured an understanding that he would be provided with appropriate “academic support” … & Fred continued to be "philanthropic throughout the years of Donald’s attendance … Donald was guided into registering for the proper classes with professors who understood the process.
“Gentlemen’s Cs” were received in abundance …
Agree this isn’t nearly at the top of Trump activities in need of investigation, but one thing has struck me as odd about this story is the reference to Trump (or more specifically, someone instead of Trump) taking “entrance exams”, specifically the SAT, in connection with his transfer. I don’t know what the practice was 50+ years ago, but I have never heard of someone who is a college freshman or sophomore taking (or retaking) the SAT at that point for the purpose of transferring to another school.
Yes. In those days Penn was about as picky as some of the Jesuits at Fordham; much less “selective” than the other Ivies; and much less so than it is today.
The real question is whether Penn wants to be saddled with the Trump stain for eternity, lol. If Penn does not revoke his degree, Penn is forever tainted. Trump is that bad for the brand.
Given his mean spirited and dishonest demands that Obama release a real, long form birth certificate, there should be an insistence that he release his Fordham and Penn transcripts, to prove that his admission was legit. And remind folks that he never released Melania’s original visa entry and extension records, even though he specifically promised to do so. And, it will get under his skin. And silence will be interpreted as admission of guilt.
But what about the rest? Trump is not special in this regard. His entire family and half of those with a certain racial background have. If you are going to investigate this why not investigate how the whole system works? Why not investigate Dubya, Rick DeSantis and everyone else? I find it cute how people pretend to be outraged by this.
Study on Harvard finds 43 percent of white students are legacy, athletes, related to donors or staff.
The number drops dramatically for black, Latino and Asian American students with less than 16 percent each coming from those categories, the study said.
Plus his demand that Obama’s transcripts be released.
I’m with you on all of it – and in most of the instances you mention, the demands should be addressed to him.
The financial records are a different matter, slightly.
Precisely the question that needs clarified. What exams? The ones at Fordham that raised his GPA enough so that Penn could hold its nose and admit him? The SAT doesn’t make sense unless Penn had a practice of asking transfers to take the exam again (which doesn’t make sense. Scholastic “aptitude” should be evident from the transcript from the original school.) I could see them asking because they really wanted a reason to refuse admittance, but again, that seems odd.
