Former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate Mike Pence dropped an ad Tuesday urging viewers to vote for a ballot measure that would make it much more difficult to pass citizen-initiated constitutional amendments in Ohio.
The GOP continues its quest to redefine democracy to it’s own liking. The sheer audacity of locking in the super majority threshold is an admission that they will never have even a simple majority again.
And yet, somehow, they have their own large majority in the State houses. Short-sighted, “stupid” voters…
My mother was a Holocaust survivor. She lived to be a very old person until recently leaving this Earth. She taught us growing up that when you have seen the absolute worst of mankind, the depth of hatred in some, the willingness to inflict injury, you appreciate love wherever and however it comes. She would add that Jesus, not our man, taught that. Pence is a mean, small man playing some weird role that only he can imagine.
Unlike the US constitution, the Ohio constitution is amended frequently, 127 times since 1913. This is just a power grab by the replublican-controlled legislature, there because of gerrymandering. They can pass an amendment with a simple majority but the people have to do it with a super majority, get 5% of voter signatures in 100% of counties to even qualify for the ballot, and have no chance to correct singatures if they throw any out. They can use fake signatures to mislead the collectors, then discount a few in one county and it all goes down. Vote no if you live in Ohio.
We all know who’s getting the nomination and that’s disturbing, but Pence the Toady hasn’t got a chance. I’d never vote for a repub but I do like what Christie is out there saying. He alone among the possible nominees is not scared shitless of djt and best of all long ago he put Jared’s daddy behind bars.
Kushner’s father, Charles Kushner, a multimillionaire real estate executive, pleaded guilty in 2004 to 18 counts of tax evasion, witness tampering and making illegal campaign donations. He admitted hiring a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law, who was cooperating in a federal campaign finance investigation, then videotaping the sexual encounter and sending it to the man’s wife, Mr. Kushner’s sister.
Ah yes, the old Mike Pence, before he was plucked from certain political oblivion by Trump after signing into law extreme “religious liberty” (to discriminate against LQBTQ+ people) legislation as Indiana governor, facing furious national blowback, then approving changes to the law to forbid said discrimination. That’s when he became Trump’s faithful running mate and running dog, verbally creaming his pants while repeatedly praising Trump’s “broad-shouldered leadership” (whatever that means).
circumvent the legislature and buy their way into the constitution
Every accusation is a confession. In this case, the Right is just copy-and-pasting our legit criticism of them. When all you have is nonsense, you gotta beg borrow and steal all the mud you can throw.
The truth is that the Koch machine is the entity that “buys its way into the Constitution,” most directly through the Federalist Society – which none of you needs to be reminded of, I’m sure, what with Justice Thomas and Judge Aileen Cannon both in the news this week for corrupt contacts with billionaires (or at least their money).
“The ACLU has a long and well-documented history of attacking parental rights, pushing trans ideology in classrooms, and encouraging sex changes for kids.”
