Pence Aide: Trump ‘Suggested’ That VP Stay In His Irish Resort

Marc Short, chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence, defended Pence’s choice of lodging — a Trump-owned property more than an hour’s flight from Dublin, where his meetings are taking place — saying that President Donald Trump merely “suggested” that he stay there.

Somehow he managed to get foriegn and domestic emoluments wrapped into one trip.

As blatant as Boss Tweed. Pence has to catch charges for this and all the other complicit stuff he’s done. Outrageous. Trump doesn’t understand right from wrong, but Pence has to know putting public money in your own pocket is a crime everywhere.

Doonbeg because that’s where the Pence family is from

Nonsense, Mike Pence was made by the Church Lady from underbaked white bread dough.

“It’s like when we went through the trip, it’s like, well, he’s going to Doonbeg because that’s where the Pence family is from. It’s like, ‘Well, you should stay at my place.'”

So Mike Pence is going to make another trip (he’s been there before) to his immigrant great-grandfather’s home – the village of Doonberg. It sounds like a personal trip to me – and should not be billed to taxpayers.

And Pence should also compensate the government for any added costs for housing secret service agents and other staff at Doonberg; there is ample accomodations within a few miles of Trump’s place for 1/3 to 1/2 the price.

Plus, the cost of the flight for Pence and his entourage between Dublin and Doonberg should also be on Pence personally.

OK then. I have a “suggestion” for Mike Pence. Go F*CK yourself. Anyone who has ever served in the military knows that commanders do not always issue direct orders. There are implied orders just as surely asa there are direct orders, both of which are legitimate and recognized under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The President is not free to “suggest” anything to his subordinates and no subordinate should assume that they are free to ignore those suggestions. When a commander (in chief) says “I suggest you get off your ass and take that hill,” it is not up for discussion.

No one thought to ‘suggest’ this was a bad idea?

It’s not like it’s completely across the country from Dublin–there’s easily another 20 miles before the end of the Loop Head Peninsula.

I do wonder if someone thought that Shannon Airport (which really is not that far from Doonbeg) was close by to Dublin.

“I don’t think it was a request, like a command … I think that it was a suggestion,” Short told reporters,
SInce when is a command like a request?
I know we have had corrupt Presidents before as well as stupid and amoral ones but with Trump we have the trifecta.

Pence admits that it was his decision to stay there and incur the added expenses. He should have to pay for those expenses out of his pocket, assuming the Dems get control.

I don’t have it at my fingertips but I’m pretty sure there are such suggestions in various criminal codes complete with suggestions for jail sentences. I’m willing to bet putting public money in your own pocket is number one or two in the list of things officials go to jail for.

Article 1 section 9, clause 8.
I suspect that applies to domestic graft as well.

Nah mang that’s emoluments, like when the Saudis come here. This is straight up paying yourself from the public coffers. No foreigners needed, just a brother-in-law or someone to steer a contract to.
