Pelosi: Trump Defending Protests Is ‘Distraction’ | Talking Points Memo

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) argued that President Trump’s defense of protesters defying stay-at-home orders is a “distraction” from his response to the COVID-19 outbreak, during Sunday morning interviews. Asked by ABC News’ George Stephanopolous about whether she thinks that the President’s guidelines to the governors are appropriate and if states are ready to begin the process of opening up, Pelosi responded that she “wouldn’t exaggerate the protests across the country” before adding that Trump’s support of the protests is “a distraction.”

Sometimes, just sometimes, I wish Democrats would fight like Republicans.

“Donald Trump is a sick, dangerous man. We all know it. He is destroying this great country one deranged tweet at a time, and he needs to resign immediately and take his whole criminal administration and his whole criminal family with him so we can arrest them and put them where they belong.”

C’mon, Nancy. Asking for a nation.

[Pelosi] argued that President Trump’s defense of protesters defying stay-at-home orders is a “distraction” from his response to the COVID-19 outbreak [and that she] “wouldn’t exaggerate the protests across the country”

Good response, for now.

She is correct, of course. Trump is flailing around trying to shift the blame and everything he does only makes it worse. He can’t focus on increasing the testing because that would tacitly admit that current testing is inadequate when he has already claimed that it was wonderful and everyone who wanted it could get tested. He has locked himself in a box and he keeps pulling in the sides. He can’t resist the briefings although they are a complete disaster because he needs the attention. He is totally predictable and never changes the way he responds to anything.

I know what you mean, and the first part of what you suggest has, in fact, been said by some Democrats here and there – but expecting anything like the rest of it from the party as a whole is … bound to result in disappointment.

To say nothing of making empty threats …

Yeah. But, we’re different. I’m not sure I’d want to give any of that difference up.

Meanwhile, Mini-Me Trumpian DeSantis had to be sued to release the list of FL nursing homes who has Covid!

…the state reported that there are 1,627 cases in residents or staff…

The data shows that about 8 percent of the 3,800 nursing homes and assisted living facilities have active positive cases

These are practice runs for disrupting the election in November, and trying to delegitimize the Nov election if he loses. Think Brooks Brothers riots in FL in 2000, but this time everywhere, and with camo and AR-15s.

We can only hope that these protesters will infect each other without infecting their families and friends but that’s not going to happen. Early today I read a quote from one of these brain damaged folk that said he’s only been getting one side of the issue: “the science side”. You can’t make up this level of idiocy.

Perhaps you can suggest some birhgt minds that we should be considering.

Your example fighting argument, however, would not be “fighting like Republicans.” Because, your example contains truth and reasonable actions. Republicans fight with lies and irresponsible provocations.

expectations are disappointments waiting to happen.

That being said, I think Nancy has said a bunch of things over the past few weeks that have been right on the mark but have been, as always, almost drowned out by the fire hose of bullshit coming from Trump.

Nancy knows you have to get the broad mass of people to see the problem at all before you can condemn it in the most vivid possible terms. People who don’t follow this stuff simply don’t realize the level of betrayal and incompetence we’ve seen. It’s unheard of, it’s literally hard to accept as real, and you have to get past that first. Otherwise it just sounds like “politics” to that broad mass. They’ll dismiss it. All the people demanding these thunderous jeremiads 24/7 don’t get that.

I agree with you about what McConnell was able to achieve and that, in some ways, the Obama Administration could have tried harder to fight him.

I don’t care how old Pelosi is, or that she is female, or whether she has grandchildren. If you have specific examples of her inability to “convey clear messages without losing her mental focus,” or if you think what’s she’s quoted as having said is an example you can use, then maybe you can explain.

Your obsession with typos Boomer, makes you part of the problem! Go back to your plastic fantastic planet and leave it to the ahistorical NOW to solve the world’s problems.

Or we can just not engage with a Russian troll.

it is a distraction … it is also dangerous as it is realistically playing with “fire” in the form of encouraging unstable enraged situations that could devolve into riots with violence.

It is also a cowardly, passive-aggressive, weak-minded, cynically destructive manipulation on the part of a man who has NEVER done a courageous thing in his life.

He wanted to strong arm to get to call the shots - but quickly found out the he did not have that power - so now - instead of focusing his efforts on working toward a resolution of the full nature of the crisis - he has now sought to attempt to flat-out sabotage and encourage armed & threatening civil unrest against the “social distancing” measures .

I have not yet begun to engage.
I mean, c’mon, one time and you’re on it like a mask on a face.

For most people, seeking the presidency would require a certain amount of courage – but not Trump?

Gee, why don’t dem voters show up? Not a thing, right? Did you miss 2018, where that grandma lead a solid flip of the house? Or was that not due to Democrats showing up. Your concern trolling is noted. Jeez.

She’s right, but I wish more of the media would point out these are orchestrated events, not grassroots but set up, organized, and paid for by outside groups.

There’s a good reddit comment showing how all the group’s domain names were purchased and set up at the same time, facebook groups created and instantly shared and pushed to the point they gained thousands of facebook “members” in a matter of days, they all use the same language, etc…

If these groups are sponsored by Russia, Trump/Parscale, etc. who knows but outside of a few media orgs (e.g. TPM and Josh’s editorial on it this morning) no one seems to be pushing that these are not organic protests, in other words, the exact same thing that happened in 2016 and helped to put Donald in the white house.
