He was bitching last year that the Russia investigation was Groundhog Day. Is this the only movie he’s seen? Maybe you and Elaine should Netflix and chill, Mitch. I bet you can find at least one of the versions of “The Manchurian Candidate” to stream.

I like this. It’s structurally powerful. Democrats are insisting on their constitutional power.
That said, there’s a messaging void as usual. It’s not clear enough, and loud enough, why Pelosi is taking this course. That’s not only a short-term issue, it’s a medium-term one: we won’t win the perception battle in the Senate if a strong, simple story–I don’t know,Trump and McConnell have crookedly agreed to gut the impeachment process, endangering our democracy–isn’t out there.

Seth Meyers really skewered his bizarre affect and slurred speech at the Iran press conference in a particularly hilarious Closer Look last night. Although my favorite part was maybe where he outlined possible moves by Congress to contain him and suggested tying a chicken nugget to a Roomba and letting it loose in the White House.
With so much of the media studiously deploying absurd euphemisms like “mercurial” and “unusual,” I find it very refreshing to hear late-night hosts calmly and correctly describing Trump’s behavior as “deranged” etc.

The time to do that was when the House still had open impeachment hearings ongoing. That is when the House had the most possible leverage, both with the Courts and with the public.
Now, the leverage with the Courts has waned, and the risk of losing the public increases the longer she holds on them.
Because all those arguments about the clear and present danger that the President is, while in his office, that were behind pushing this to get down before the holiday recess, fall the way side as meaningless blather.
Keep in mind: The main attainable objective has been achieved, and was going to be achieved…Trump being impeached. The secondary objective is a Senate trial in which we can hang every republican voting to acquit, on the campaign trail. That is best achieved by actually letting McConnell go forward with a “show” trial. Dems are going to be outraged that he is acquitted. So let the GOP throw away even the fig leave of “fair and balanced”, it will only help us this fall with turnout.
