House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) sent a letter to her Democratic colleagues on Sunday telling them she will hold a vote to curb President Donald Trump’s aggression toward Iran after he had top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani assassinated via drone strike last week.
That is a very smart move. It will pass in the House but fail in the Senate and the Repukes will end up owning the consequences of Trump’s further actions regarding Iran.
Good for Pelosi. Someone has got to do something against this demented maniac.
If passed, "military hostilities with regard to Iran cease within 30 days.”
30 days with this impulsive POS at the helm is a long damn time.
My niece works on a large Navy base and this a.m. they all had to go in early because of the long lines and questioning to get into work.
This is just the latest reminder that if President Obama, or indeed any Democratic president, had acted the way that Trump has, the Republican members of Congress would have their hair in fire. His “my social media post will serve as formal declaration that I may take this country to war” tweet is just the latest example of someone who has not read and does not understand the Constitution, And Republican acquiesce is criminal neglect of their sworn duty to uphold and defend the Constitution.
Once the Democrats get full control of the government they need to pass strong restrictions on presidential powers. For example, without Congressional authorization the President should be authorized to use military force only to respond to a direct attack on the United States or its treaty partners, and required to seek approval within 72 hours.
Donald Trump asked a foreign policy expert advising him why the U.S. can’t use nuclear weapons, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said on the air Wednesday, citing an unnamed source who claimed he had spoken with the GOP presidential nominee.
“Several months ago, a foreign policy expert on the international level went to advise Donald Trump. And three times [Trump] asked about the use of nuclear weapons. Three times he asked at one point if we had them why can’t we use them,” Scarborough said on his “Morning Joe” program.
Scarborough made the Trump comments 52 seconds into an interview with former Director of Central Intelligence and ex-National Security Agency Director Michael Hayden.
Scarborough then asked a hypothetical question to Hayden about how quickly nuclear weapons could be deployed if a president were to give approval.
“It’s scenario dependent, but the system is designed for speed and decisiveness. It’s not designed to debate the decision,” Hayden said.
Tellingly, in the many years since Scarborough cited the above report, Donald Trump has not disputed the interview took place, nor denied saying what was attributed to him.
Trump last night repeating his tough guy threats regarding cultural sites - “They’re allowed to kill our people. They’re allowed to torture and maim our people. they’re allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people. And we’re not allowed to touch their cultural site?. It doesn’t work that way.”
War crimes - so what. His supporters on the street and in Congress will likely be all in.
They just need a few American deaths then it’s 2003 all over again. "You can’t criticize [or impeach] our President, we’re at war!
Recall Phil Donahue getting axed because MSNBC can’t present this face while we’re at war!!! We’ve seen this all before and not that long ago and it will happen again.
On day 28, after Iranian attacks, His Generals present him with the requested “very extreme option” of using battlefield small nukes to destroy hard targets. Another first for his narcissistic bucket list.
Nah… that`s ridiculous, he would never do that and if he did sensible minds in the military would refuse the order. And the masses would say … “see… our great system is still working”.
