Nonetheless, McConnell whacked Pelosi Friday for even flirting with the idea of delaying the transmission, claiming in his floor remarks that the House had developed “cold feet” about its impeachment case after for weeks touting an urgency in the allegations that required the House to move quickly

I think the point has been made pretty clearly that there is a lot more evidence and the Democrats were blocked from getting it by the Trump administration’s obstruction. The second impeachment article should basically be a done deal, as the latest email release was one subpoenaed and refused, and it clearly shows an administration playing loose with the rules and trying to cover it up. More evidence will come out during the year, each bit just supporting the criminality of what Trump and the administration have done.
Holding the articles to make it clear that the Republicans are trying to cover up for Trump has its utility to a point, but it can’t last forever. I’d say in a week or two Pelosi should send them over, after continued defiance by McConnell to hold a fair trial…alone with a blistering statement making it clear that she expects a sham trial by the Republicans instead of a search for truth and justice. Then, the Republicans will do exactly what she predicts…at that point they will openly admit to the nation that all that matters is absolute power. Add in the continuing drip of evidence showing Trump’s malfeasance, and Republican’s gloating over basically ignoring the Constitution for their own glory will help to piss off the rest of the nation, hopefully enough to sink them completely in 2020.
Stocks are down, oil prices are up, Trump ordered the assassination of an Iranian General without consulting the Gang of Eight beforehand, and Mitch is afraid of witnesses in the impeachment trial.

I am not so sure. You basically are advocating a timeline of WHEN to hand over the hostage to Moscow Mitch for beatings, atrocities, and public showboating. Holding the articles has proven to have HUGE upside and allows Pelosi to play with Moscow Mitch while keeping his foul hands off them. I think Pelosi should draw them back and add more Impeachable Offenses…not give them to him.
Go get him Pelosi! I think it’s good there was no mention of holding up the articles. MoscowMitch is going to look worse and worse and hopefully if this drags on for a month or two the Rethug senators are going to be growing concerned, not about tRump but their own reelections. The House is still in control and I’m sure there’s a plan in place for how this will be handled.

I hear a lot of talk on chatter box cable news shows about how the timing of the impeachment trial is going to disrupt the senator presidential candidates in the early primary states.
They rarely point out that, as more evidence is paraded out, it’s the R senators up for re-election who will be sweating this.
Mitch really doesn’t know what else to do but stay the course and hope that this delay will make Nancy, somehow, look bad. He’s behind an eight ball, strategically speaking.
She’s in the driver seat and I think that Sanders, Warren, and Klobuchar (and Booker) campaigns will not be harmed by the trial. If anything, IMO it’ll give them a higher profile.
Yes, she does. And this is now exactly in the realm of a sports or war decision. Everything is risky. Just doing the rote thing, (Droopy Dawg voice) “sending the articles over” is ‘safer’. It is customary. It is the predictable, sensible maneuver outlined in the Impeachment Handbook for Beginners.
But that is not where we are at. One whole body of our govt. and a key player in Impeachment (Senate) is not following the laws of the land, have been employing asymmetrical warfare against the Dems and all the people of the USA. They are not good-faith actors in a parliamentary process where we do OUR duty and they do THEIRS. The American People want to see action. Punishment. A Beat Down. That is why the whole Impeachment process has been a success and has great approval, not what all the chicken-littles worried would blow up in our faces.
This is where you put the pedal down, not consult your actuary tables and call the safe play. There comes a time in every game, or every battle where you see your chance and you take it…unless you really don’t want to win.

Perhaps Nancy should publicly invoke the “McConnell Rule” and defer an impeachment during an election year. If Mitch has stated that he’s not going to “do impartial justice” then there’s little point in giving the Senate the chance to “exonerate” the President. Using the “McConnell Rule” would remind the public about the blatant hypocrisy of the Majority Leader while giving the house more time to add charges as the evidence materializes. After all, conservatives have criticized the process as “rushed” and “lacking first-hand witnesses”. Let’s give them what they want.
Moscow Mitch and his party are taking a hit on this. Last polls I saw it was 70% want witnesses and a trial. Pelosi knows what she is doing, I trust her judgment on this.
I’d personally like to see it play out that way, but it’s been said that she brought along part of her caucus by committing to a process that was time-constrained and limited in scope. If that’s true I wonder how much room to maneuver she really has.
