The idea being to partially replace the lost incomes of folks who’ve lost their jobs to the virus so they can buy essentials and pay at least part of their rent and utilities, while pumping money into the economy so it doesn’t totally crash, a one-time modest cash stipend isn’t going to accomplish either of these. We need regular payouts to everyone who’s been adversely financially affected by the virus, including small businesses. Nothing short of that is going to help much.

My wife and I monitor a local website called “Buy Nothing” which is basically a kind of barter system effort. We already know 3 couples whose incomes have vanished - completely vanished. One $600 payment is going to carry them about 2 weeks if they eat nothing but rice, beans and macaroni and cheese.

Really? I probably spend at least that amount monthly and I’m not a meat eater. I make everything from scratch rarely buy cans or frozen anything, except for ice cream which I couldn’t live without.
