Pelosi Says She Endorsed Kennedy Because She Was Upset By ‘Assault’ On Kennedy Family Legacy

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said on Thursday that her startling endorsement of Rep. Joe Kennedy’s (D-MA) primary campaign against Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) was born of outrage over what she believed to be slander against the Kennedy family vast legacy.

At best, this is a self-own by Speaker Pelosi. And I expect Ed Markey to win.

I’m so so sick of her and also I’m sick of the Dems pandering and brown nosing Republicans during DNC we are trying to be Proggresive party and if we get Biden to win I’m ready to fight him on any fucking middle of the toad policy decision. He should not be mistaken - we hate trump it’s not that we love him

“I wasn’t too happy with some of the assault that I saw made on the Kennedy family,”

There’s a rationale that has nothing to do with who is more competent or would make their constituents’ lives better. In other words, Speaker Pelosi’s endorsement was inappropriate.

Correct! She needs to step down at the next session as she promised.

Wut?

ETA: To answer my own question, “I was upset by some of the assault I perceived on four generations of wealthy and entitled inherited officeholders and useless trust fund babies, some of whom have occasionally done worthwhile things, some of whom have occasionally done rapey and murdery things, and others who have been deeply committed anti-vaxxers. How dare anyone mildly recast a statement once uttered by one of them who died almost 60 years ago!”

Nancy gotta go.

Hey, Nancy, can you spell L•A•M•E, as in “lame excuse”? I thought so.

You entitled to your opinion, but you know where you can shove it.

Good grief people, she can endorse who the hell she wants. It’s not for any of us to tell her who to endorse or whether to or not or agree with her reasons.

All of you dissing on Nancy, you are pathetic. She is smarter than any of us here and has served our county well, more than all of us put together. If it wasn’t for Nancy we would not be able to counter trump at all. Geeeez, purity ponies are a pain in the ass!

Oh please, people act that way all the time. Personality cults, label games, identity politics, etc. The overreaction to this is stunningly ridiculous.

Speak for yourself. If you think Joe’s platform isn’t progressive, then you don’t know what you’re talking about and are running on ideological fumes and divisiveness. “It’s not progressive because I wasn’t promised ALL my unicorns, only some of them.” I’m so very sorry that reality requires some compromise and that you don’t get to command it not to.

“I endorsed Joe Kennedy because he paid me a lot of money for it.”

Nope, no criticism allowed.

Everybody makes mistakes including Nancy. Nobody can point to a reason to change senators. Ed Markey has been and is a solid senator. This is just Joe Kennedy trying to self promote. Frankly my opinion of Kennedy has declined.

Sure, go for it, criticism is certainly allowed and I usually agree with you and appreciate your lawyerly insights.

Just don’t agree this time, but I’m sure I will again.

I vote for Pelosi every election, but recruiting candidates and party unity are part of the speaker’s job so this was inappropriate. Of course, I am still planning to vote for her next election.

I appreciate the defense of Pelosi, but I don’t think anyone is beyond criticism. She manages her caucus very well, but I have been concerned for years that she is out of touch with the major structural problems with our country, and generational wealth and entitlement are somewhere around no. 4 on that list.

Nancy Pelosi is wrong here and is drifting towards cronyism.

Dynastic politics is a sign of the corruption of democracy.

Go join the Green Party - and don’t let the door hit you on the way out!

Call me old fashioned. I like Joe and am glad Nancy endorsed him. And of course Joe is a progressive, worthy Democrat. Reasonable minds can differ about which candidate would best serve the interests of Massachusetts citizens.
