Pelosi Says Attack Will Affect Her Decision On Whether To Retire

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) signaled on Monday that the violent assault on her husband, Paul Pelosi, on Oct. 28 will be factored into her decision on her political future.

“Well, I have to say my decision will be affected about [sic] what happened the last week or two,” Pelosi said.

Oh, come on. Is the [sic] really necessary?

Madame Speaker is one of the very few heroes to have emerged from the current political swamp

Retire Nancy…your accomplishments and contributions to America and the democratic process are well understood…the coming gridlock shit show at the hands of GOP is going to be a thankless slog for people trying to get things done for America…

I love Nancy Pelosi and am deeply grateful to her. She is a giant of American governance for the people.

Especially when this site would need [sic]s every other paragraph. People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

Retire either way. Dem leadership in the House is outright geriatric, and that’s not representative of our voters.

Isn’t this a little disturbing? Her constituents only have her on the ballot today and she’s already talking about not serving out the term before they’ve been able to vote?

Yes, I understand - what happened to her husband was awful and traumatic. It was uncalled for and probably will happen again, with probable greater success.

But to say on Election day that, if elected, will not serve? I don’t know how comfortable I am with this.

I’m sure the speaker will not go back to being the minority leader if the Dem’s don’t retain the house. She will retire in early 2023 and CA will have a special election. Speaker Pelosi gets a pass on whatever decision she makes. She earned this pass in my opinion.

I could be wrong, but I’m taking it to mean that she won’t run again in 2024.

I think the circumstances are extraordinary here and she gets a pass in my book.

An outright American hero. In California this seat is safely Democratic. I also took her to mean she might rethink 2024. In any event, without her the last 7 years would have been much, much more challenging, if you can imagine. As for the ‘geriatric’ crack, they represent me just fine.

I’m not one of her constituents, but if I was, I would give her a pass. She has earned whatever decision she makes by being the most effective Speaker in US history. Madame Speaker has given us a Masterclass in how to corral a discordant caucus into an effective legislative machine.

Life intervenes. If Paul’s recovery requires her presence and support, she is justified in stepping down. There will be a special election to fill her position if that happens. Republicans step down all the time to pursue better (read more lucrative) options.

Whenever she chooses to retire, it looks like my daughter’s congressman very well may replace her in our Democratic leadership.

Hakeem Jeffries, a representative for New York’s 8th congressional district, is a rising star in the Democratic Party and the likely front-runner to succeed Nancy Pelosi as House leader. He’s also quite the policy wonk

“We’re going to have to do a better job moving forward, of recognizing that there’s a distinction between governing and messaging,” he said. “You govern in fine print. You message, you persuade, you communicate in headlines.”

Her election is not today. Padilla is on the ballot.

I wonder how many otherwise well-qualified candidates will rethink running for office because of this attack on Pelosi’s family. How many people will want to expose their families to the threat of MAGA violence?

Yes, she is. All house seats are up every two years.

I just want you to know that my LEaf DrinkiNg doesn’t start until tomorrow…or rather, tonight when I get home from work. I am a responsible person.
