House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) signaled on Monday that the violent assault on her husband, Paul Pelosi, on Oct. 28 will be factored into her decision on her political future.
Retire NancyâŚyour accomplishments and contributions to America and the democratic process are well understoodâŚthe coming gridlock shit show at the hands of GOP is going to be a thankless slog for people trying to get things done for AmericaâŚ
Isnât this a little disturbing? Her constituents only have her on the ballot today and sheâs already talking about not serving out the term before theyâve been able to vote?
Yes, I understand - what happened to her husband was awful and traumatic. It was uncalled for and probably will happen again, with probable greater success.
But to say on Election day that, if elected, will not serve? I donât know how comfortable I am with this.
Iâm sure the speaker will not go back to being the minority leader if the Demâs donât retain the house. She will retire in early 2023 and CA will have a special election. Speaker Pelosi gets a pass on whatever decision she makes. She earned this pass in my opinion.
An outright American hero. In California this seat is safely Democratic. I also took her to mean she might rethink 2024. In any event, without her the last 7 years would have been much, much more challenging, if you can imagine. As for the âgeriatricâ crack, they represent me just fine.
Iâm not one of her constituents, but if I was, I would give her a pass. She has earned whatever decision she makes by being the most effective Speaker in US history. Madame Speaker has given us a Masterclass in how to corral a discordant caucus into an effective legislative machine.
Life intervenes. If Paulâs recovery requires her presence and support, she is justified in stepping down. There will be a special election to fill her position if that happens. Republicans step down all the time to pursue better (read more lucrative) options.
Whenever she chooses to retire, it looks like my daughterâs congressman very well may replace her in our Democratic leadership.
Hakeem Jeffries, a representative for New Yorkâs 8th congressional district, is a rising star in the Democratic Party and the likely front-runner to succeed Nancy Pelosi as House leader. Heâs also quite the policy wonk
âWeâre going to have to do a better job moving forward, of recognizing that thereâs a distinction between governing and messaging,â he said. âYou govern in fine print. You message, you persuade, you communicate in headlines.â
I wonder how many otherwise well-qualified candidates will rethink running for office because of this attack on Pelosiâs family. How many people will want to expose their families to the threat of MAGA violence?
I just want you to know that my LEaf DrinkiNg doesnât start until tomorrowâŚor rather, tonight when I get home from work. I am a responsible person.
