House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) slammed President Donald Trump on Sunday for not giving her or other congressional leaders a heads up about the raid that led to the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Historically, presidents have been permitted continued access to intelligence once they are out of office. That would be a huge security risk once we finally bounce this one.
Donât know how this can be done but I would like to see a new rule that an outgoing president needs to submit to a standard FBI security clearance review before they can continue to receive sensitive info.
ETA: Although he could be a valuable useful idiot for us if the IC feeds him false info and watches where it lands.
Just following the progressions of headlines - first that top Democrats werenât told. How did the press know this? Democrats said they werenât told.
But Republicans in the gang of eight werenât told either and of course didnât hurry to tell the press theyâd been snubbed too?
Thatâs a very different headline - Congress itself, the institution, wasnât informed. Thatâs not a partisan snub. Thatâs another failure to recognize that branch of government.
The gang of 8 all have high level security clearances. Trump is an idiot and divulged the operation last night in a tweet. He is an unwell man who is manifestly unsuited for the job of POTUS. As Schiff pointed out, it was to Trumpâs benefit to keep the gang of 8 in the loop. Trump injected partisanship into a matter of national security.
Had this escalated, had something gone wrong, had we gotten into a firefight with the Russians, itâs to the administrationâs advantage to be able to say, âWe informed Congress we were going in, they were aware of the risks. We at least gave them the chance to provide feedback,'â Schiff said. âThat wasnât done here.â
But he wonât, or heâll have someone else read them and give him the bullet points. At this point I donât believe he can read, have you seen his telepromter performances?
Incorrect. Trump confirmed in his remarks that he had briefed two Republican Senators - Burr and Graham - and, pointedly, said he did not brief any Democrats. Changes the tenor of your comment, doesnât it?
If he had the faintest concern for leaks he would pack his bags and walk out the White House door, conducting as he does the leakiest administration ever and being himself an overflowing sewer of information. Who blabbed a code-word secret to the Russians, trying to sound like a big shot or likely worse? Not Nancy Pelosi. This is the kind of middle-school pique that disinvites Lindsey from the slumber party because sheâs so âstuck up.â And I know Iâm offering a gendered example of antagonism but thatâs how I see him, and make of it what you will.
