I read the Times piece. I don’t think Birx was lying. She was just out of her element. Sure, she had data, but she doesn’t have the proper background to understand it and put it in perspective. A proper task force would include epidemiologists and other experts who could have helped Birx understand that the trends she thought were occurring were not necessarily going to be the case at all.
I also watched the videos of her cringing when Trump looked at her when he mentioned using disinfectant and light. She’s in a really bad situation, given responsibility but no authority at all. A no-win situation for her.

This bullshit just destroys her credibility even more. The news was that the dotard claimed injecting bleach would destroy the virus and she did not respond to that bullshit publicly. To say that we need to move on from what the POTUS said rather than her publicly correcting the deadly misinformation is what Speaker Pelosi is pointing out.
“It bothers me that this is still in the news cycle, because I think we’re missing the bigger pieces of what we need to be doing as an American people to continue to protect one another,” the doctor said several days after the briefing. “As a scientist and a public health official and a researcher, sometimes I worry that we don’t get the information to the American people that they need when we continue to bring up something that was from Thursday night.”

I think it’s worse than that. She’s not a completely passive bystander in all this. She was probably involved in the decision to divert the hospital data from the CDC so the WH would have more control over the numbers. Remember how she said she didn’t trust the CDC numbers?
Someone had to make that chart with misleading mortality rates that Trump kept asking for in recent interviews. Birx was probably behind that one too. She’s not going to come out of this with clean hands.
