Pelosi Gives McCarthy A Good Ol’ Thumping And The DC Press Is Very Confused | Talking Points Memo

A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things.

A flurry of moves and countermoves over the Jan. 6 select committee left the DC political press badly exposed.

To be fair, Nancy didn’t burn Quevin, he actually jumped headfirst into the fire.

No matter Pelosi’s reasoning, her decision to reject Jordan and Banks, the two most high-profile Republicans put forward by McCarthy, dooms even the possibility of the committee being perceived as bipartisan or its eventual findings being seen as independent.

It’s not mentioned but this instantly famous idiocy comes from a very familiar source: Chris Cilizza, whose addiction to the most banal and ridiculously obsolete conventional wisdom has long been noted. People like Cilizza are paid to understand Washington politics, and yet the one most important fact about those politics in the last 50 years, the utter radicalization of the GOP, seems to have escaped them. Needless to say, there’s little doubt that the committee, which is already more bipartisan than the addition of any 30 other GOP members of Congress could make it, will believably hang the albatross of guilt around the appropriate necks, and oh baby it will actually matter.

Gave him a thumping because he was Trumping. Poor press. They’re not a press “corps,” if all they do is read press releases. Shucks, Siri can do that much. Where is all the “blue lives matter” BS when you need it- in this case to secure the Capitol and adequately support the Capitol Police. Just because GOP now is acting like snowflakes doesn’t mean someone was mean to them. Ye shall know them by their actions. Credibility would be gained by the press if they briefly mentioned the lead-up to this and all the GOP sabotage directed to avoid such investigation. The actual select committee will be much better run, vs the fake ersatz disinformation committee of the GOP.

I wonder what David Brooks has to say about Nancy’s move yesterday.

apparently involves mind altering drugs, because to put it succinctly " that boy ain’t right".

So…Jim Jordan is prevented from screaming for hours a day on TV, constantly interrupting and bringing the committee to the level of a yahoo comments section…and the beltway journalists consider this a loss for Pelosi? The only way that makes sense is if she was planning to run a generator powered by spittle and bullshit. Otherwise, No-Time Timmy Jim is good for nuthin’.

I’m afraid I couldn’t tell you, not having read two words from him in a row for many years.

McCarthy is like the private in a battalion who is placed in charge because everyone above him is gone. He looks and sounds clueless. He isn’t telegenic at all, which may be the more relevant shortcoming in today’s ‘always-on’ camera environment.

Pelosi Gives McCarthy A Good Ol’ Thumping

Why “Gool Ol”? McCarthy’s district is in Bakersfield, CA. Maybe the headline writer is confusing him with Marky Meadows, the congresscritter from western NC who spent 7 feckless months as TFG’s chief of staff in 2020?

Chris Cillizza makes David Brooks look like David Broder.

Susan Collins is weeping and deeply concerned about her pearls.

So sad.

He’s working on it as we speak. As soon as his car arrives to take him to the Hudson valley, he’ll nosh at a bistro and find out just what the real America thinks about how Democrats are bad.

Also Kevin McCarthy:

“The president bears responsibility for Wednesday’s attack on Congress by mob rioters, he should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding. Some say the riots were caused by antifa, there is absolutely no evidence of that. And conservatives should be the first to say so.”

He got over that in a hurry.

Beltway CW holds that bipartisanship is the greatest virtue and that in real world terms it means that Repubs have to be catered to no matter what and Dems are not allowed to object to literally anything, that being poor form and hyperpartisan. Repubs being assholes is just them being them, but Dems standing up to them is just bad manners.

But, slowly, they’re being tamed, thanks to Nancy and Joe.

On Morning Joe today babbling Willy led the story with saying “the Select Committee is in disarray, unraveling before our eyes.” Really?

What he now meant to say:

“Biden bears full responsibility for the attack on Congress and vice president Pence by Antifa and BLM mob rioters, he should have immediately denounced them when he saw what was unfolding. Some say the riots were caused by Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, there is absolutely no evidence of that. And far-left agitators should be the first to say so.”

They still don’t get it, that when one side is being assholes and the other isn’t having any of it, this is not “partisan” or “chaotic”. Not on both sides’ part. It’s like in grade school when someone sucker-punched you and you punched back, you were both hauled off to the principal’s office and punished, even though you were just defending yourself and the other kid was the aggressor. Even if they accepted this, they mumbled some nonsense about taking the high road or being the better person, the real lesson being that life isn’t fair and only you can make it fair, by standing up for yourself and dealing with the consequences, and ignoring the self-interested idiots who don’t give a shit about you or actual fairness.

The beltway media is the principal, and the principal is an unprincipled coward and moron. Fuck that principal.
