WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. businesses sharply reduced hiring last month, suggesting that resurgent COVID-19 infections slowed the economic recovery as many states closed parts of their economies again and consumers remained cautious about spending.
But… But…The Great leader hasn’t interpreted the numbers yet
According to his graphs,This is the largest hiring increase in the history of the world when you compare it to sometime in 1883
Those charts in the interview
I suspect they were created by some frightened flunky desperate to give him “Good” news
It appeared he really hadn’t even looked at them prior to the meeting
We sincerely thank the Trump campaign for trusting him not to fuck it up and giving us the greatest trove of campaign material in the history of the world
You could make a whole teevee series out of it
How Stupid is Donald Trump?.. Tune in at 8
The Republican party should do what NBA & NHL teams when they realize that they are hopeless for the season, dump all expensive and underperforming player to make room for a rebuild. GOPers have plenty of deadwood, starting with Trump, and the trade deadline is coming soon.
In theory we ought to be able to do OK with 10-15% fewer jobs – that’s essentially the economy of the early 2000s – but theory is not practice, especially with these dangerous losers in charge.
How many more working age adults are there now compared to the early 2000s? I seem to recall that the Bush economy sucked even before it fell of a cliff - and that was with flat job growth.
It was widely known as a “jobless recovery” from the dotcom crash. Economic activity went up, but employment didn’t (or at least not enough to match population growth).
The work force is definitely larger (although it’s been shrinking again). Civilian labor force was about 150M in 2004, peaked at 165M in 2019.
But the crucial deal is distribution. If all of us just had to cut our discretionary spending by 15% (because everything else was being dealt with) that wouldn’t be such a big deal. But instead you have hundreds of thousands of people who are unaffected or doing better, and tens of millions who have to cut their total spending (not discretionary) by 50% or more, and that doesn’t work.
