PARIS — Paris authorities have banned all outdoor sports activities between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. after Parisians took to the streets in numbers over the weekend to enjoy the sunny weather.

France has nearly 9,000 dead and some 100,000 known infections across the country.

At almost a 10% mortality rate, WTF is anyone going outside for in France?

Wow, people are going to go nuts as many if not most Parisian apartments are cramped and the Parisian spring is glorious (April in Paris…). Are people stupid enough to work out with and near others? It’s not like the city lacks for wide open spaces to run or walk. Well, depending on where you live. I used to stay with a friend in the 13th and would run along the Seine to the (then new) Bibliothèque Nationale or to the Jardin des Plantes. But I suppose that if you live closer to the center, it’s tough to find open spaces. Still, since people have to and are allowed to buy essentials, I suppose they can use the walk to and from as an opportunity to work out, perhaps taking a longer route than usual.

A la santé des Parisiens!

Along with large shipments of aquarium sterilizer–COD of course?

While working out? That’s some serious addiction! :smoking:

Who’s running the betting pool on which country experiences the first uprising against their government and the stay-at-home measures?

France definitely put itself in the running with banning people from getting sunlight, unless they’re rich enough to have a nice mansion with a garden.

“Parisians were previously allowed to exercise outdoors for an hour while carrying a form”

Calvin Trillin and many others before him have remarked how obsessed the French are with forms and documents.

It’s this part. Remember, that exercise was limited to an hour. If you’re in like the 9th or 18th, for example, you might make it as far as the nearest small park before having to turn around…

Well you could get a good workout in either by running or walking up and down Montmarte. Or, perhaps, if they’re open and it’s allowed, walking around the Gares du Nord or de L’Est. And, although it might be tempting fate, there are plenty of cemeteries to walk or run around.

Which becomes you and a shit-ton of other people, that’s a very packed area.

Off-hours, then, use caution and wear a mask. Not getting exercise is itself potentially fatal.

Well, with the new restrictions, everyone will have to be using the same few off-hours that have daylight.

Not exactly safe after dark in much of that area.
