Look, most of these people are poorly educated, born again assholes. Hopefully the courts would call their actions 1st Amendment violations. Just one more case where we should look closely at some type of qualifier (test, educational level, etc) to vote. Fortunately, religion in America is dying, and will probably be, for all intents and purposes, dead by the turn of the next century. Religions have caused more problems than benefits over the history of man.
Of course, in MTG’s case, you could drop her during a food shortage into a library in which each book contained a snack at the end and she’d starved to death from failing to open a single cover. No banning necessary, and in this single instance, not a bad outcome.
Given her disdain of education, knowledge, fact and scientific methods, i suspect she would use book pages to wipe her sorry ass.
It was Reagan who tried to revive those federal subsidies to religious institutions who engaged in segregation like Bob Jones university. When he was president the announcement of it strategically ended up in a Friday news dump but was fought back in the courts. Jones did change their ways years later after W. Bush got heat for speaking there when he campaigned in 2000.
these people forget thet kids are very curious…tell them they can’t read a book and they run as fast as they can, to get that book. i’m glad i don’t have kids in school, i’d really hate to have to buy all the’banned’ books again, for them to read.
The Reich has won the culture war. In 1981 on an episode of “WKRP” a right wing fascist a-hole preacher (is there another kind) demanded that the station stop playing certain songs. Among them, John Lennon’s “Imagine.” After reading the lyrics and watching the preacher flip out, over “imagine no possessions” Mr. Carlson dressed down the asshole perfectly. They even hired the actor Richard Paul to play the preacher because he looked exactly like that fat lying piece of shit scumbag grifter Falwell. It was one of their highest-rated episodes. Today, half the country would flip the fuck out over that.
Good ole Jerry; another man who really should have died a long time ago. What a miserable piece of human waste.
My error, I confused him with the execrable Pat Robertson, who is still stealing perfectly good air from the rest of humanity. Hopefully that will soon be corrected.
That’s a calumny.
Once again, the right demonstrates the huge difference between them and everyone else…namely “libruls”. They really believe that if you do not talk about something, it is not happening. That goes for sexual abuse, racism, misogyny, teenage pregnancies and illegal abortion and so many of the other ills that they so beautifully display in their own lives. Just ignore it and it does not exist. That way, the “party of personal responsibility” never has to admit their own blatant hypocrisy , or the necessity of doing anything about all those “things” that they do not want to face up to.
Trying to ban books just makes kids more determined to get their hands on them. Denying sex education just puts their own children in the position of finding out by experimentation what sex is all about.
And after years and years of seeing that this approach does not work, they have still not learned a damn thing.
