Pandemic Power Play: MI GOP Tries To Block Whitmer From Using Part Of Dec. Aid Package | Talking Points Memo

The Michigan state GOP is attempting to take a hostage in its bid to strip Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) of her pandemic authorities: billions of dollars in aid money from former president Trump.

Once again, the Republican party is showing that it has no interest in people, governing, or democracy, and only in absolute power. They are perfectly happy to throw money around, without oversight, to their desired targets, but helping people in MI is just too much for them. That $1+ billion would really help people, but Republicans are just loathe to do that.

Itā€™s frustrating that they continue to act so irresponsibly, and more frustrating that they continue to get away with it. I just hope that, at some point, all the people who are getting screwed finally rise up and force Republicans out of office until they do their duty to the people.

The hostages that these GOP criminals are taking are the people of the State of Michigan. Put in simple terms, people will die if the Republican legislators get away with this so called power play, and that should be considered murder, pure and simple.

Itā€™s a pity that State Sen. Ed McBroom feels ā€œemasculatedā€, but perhaps he can recover his testicles by doing something other than screwing the people of Michigan?

Sorry Iā€™m hung up on property tax relief and kneecapping the governor for federal dollars to distribute vaccines. And Republicans in Congress donā€™t want such a large bill, donā€™t want to give states financial aid because of poor management?

Whitmer has bigger balls than all of the pussies in the MI Republican party.

Thatā€™s the dilemma for state Democrats: agree to limited spending with a poison pill, or call the GOPā€™s bluff on whether it will really go so far as to refuse to allocate billions provided to it under a president of the same party.

This is no dilemma. The only option is to call the bluff and get on TV every day (during COVID-19 updates) demanding the GOP send her a clean bill to sign.

The alternative is basically surrendering the powers of the Governorā€™s office. She would get all the blame, but have none of the power, for things that go wrong in the state.

Whitmer should work with the Biden admin to start sending those funds directly to local public or private parties, where possible. Let the MI state GOP scream and sue, while Whitmer delivers much needed aid to local communities.

Why the fuck do people vote ā€œRā€? I understand if you own a yacht or person jet but if not, then why? Is it really better to stick it to your neighbor than help yourself or your family? Does using racist language benefit you more than receiving a helping hand from the government? Does getting your news from Facebook really inform you more than getting it from reputable sources?

I understand most of these people are simply miserable in their lives and want others to be miserable too but man, does always being miserable make your life better, ever?

O/T But WOW
My sister just texted me that she received a letter from the House Committee Science, Space, and Technology asking her to testify on their remote hearing " Lessons Learned from the Texas blackouts: Research needs for a secure and resilient grid."
And her week was already a bit sunny because the woman who Chaired the Texas Public Utility Chair resigned, or was forced to resign, Deanne Walker was the one who ousted my sister from her job last year.
I guess Iā€™ll check to see if C-SPAN is covering the hearing.

Well Rick Snyder has misdemeanor charges filed against him for the Flint water debacle. Are the MI republicans going to try and get Whittmer charged for her pandemic response?

The basic point of this legislation is cruelty. It is the animating policy of all GOP actions.

Taking lessons from the Wisconsin legislature that has been highly successful in making the Governorā€™s office a figurehead rather than an equal partner.

It is becoming disturbingly common.
