Love the Cheney-W picture. That is all.

The man that Chaney shot was Harry Whittington, a long time Republican operative in Texas and by all accounts a very nice person. A true fiscal conservative but a million miles from MAGA thinking. Before retiring I worked in a ATT office across the street from the Texas Capitol building and when out for walks would see Mr Whittington often walking on Congress Avenue with his briefcase. I was tempted for a while to walk behind him making shotgun noises but he had such a nice reputation I resisted it. I think he might have found it funny anyways

There are a great many significant news events swirling about. They will all pale when placed beside a looming story, though. Rumors abound Dems are prepared to cave on the shutdown, so long as they are promised a future vote on extending the ACA tax credits. Which means all the current rates hikes go into effect. And they’ll lose that future vote to restore the tax credits. Or the GOP and Schumer/Jeffries will cobble together some BS compromise that restores a small fraction of the credits, and premiums still balloon to unaffordable levels. Millions will have to decide between paying for healthcare premiums, or paying their rent, car payment and buying food. Because millions of people can’t do both. I think caving would be a monumental mistake. Which is probably precisely why it’s what the Dems will do.

Kudos to David Kurtz in the MM for saying what needs to be said about Dick Cheney.

The Sept. 11 attack happened on his watch. Everything that came afterward –Afghanistan, Iraq, torture, surveillance, and a toxic form of patriotism – was overcompensation for his own initial failure.

His three points (including that TPM thought he would kick the bucket back in 2012 and actually had an obit prepared) point out what scum he was.

If you haven’t given him a thumbs up for this alone today, please go back and so.

Someone should ask for Cruz’s definition of “actual democrat,” because I’m pretty sure we’ll never find any statement from him about democrats that doesn’t imply or outright say what he’s saying now about Mamdani.

Sometime last week, I think, some local sportscaster died, and I saw a headline. His last name was “Trumpy.” It was really good at first glance.

Many Trump supporters and voters particularly in rural areas voted for him in 2016 because of the endless wars advocated by the Cheney neo con wing of the party as well as Hillarys vote in favor of it. Leading to their kid or neighbor who is on their 3rd or 4th national guard tour in Iraq coming back with issues or sadly back in a body bag. They saw Trumps half handed opposition to the wars as rational.

She can drop the current indictment and appoint Halligan without using her time machine. She would have 6 months to try to get a legit indictment, but with all of the press, I’m doubting she would be able to get a new one.

My first question is, what is the source of the rumors? I would totally expect a ratfucking operation from the land of Bezos and Weiss.

If I was going to pick up someone at an ICE facility I’d want to have a lawyer, private security, 3 witnesses and a member of the clergy accompany me. Unfortunately that would probably result in several more people in detention.

So what happened to the dogs? OK I see that BP was took someone who was talking to folks with dogs, but he didn’t have a dog himself. :sad_but_relieved_face:

I mean I think about the damage BP/ICE have done to people’s cars. What happens to the arrested folks’ vehicles? Does a friend, family member have to pay to release their property? I just couldn’t fathom what kind of dog jail BP/ICE had set up.

The NYT put it deftly: “The evidence was included in a 48-page filing that appeared to be an effort to construct a narrative that Mr. Comey had leaked information to the news media without actually tying such assertions to the allegations made in the indictment brought against him.”

At times, the filing reads like its target audience is not the judge but the man occupying the Oval Office.

In other words the DOJ has filed material that isn’t relevant to the charges. Unless they update the charges the filing isn’t waving a magic wand, it is just trying to brown nose Trump. Unless I misread, It doesn’t solve anything in the indictment. In fact it probably helps Comey’s claim of improper prosecution.

Re: Cheney Point 3:

So true. So true. So true.

In the pre-dawn PST I posted on cspan Wash Jrnl:

The man avoided a cell at the Hague or a noose anywhere. One of many Republicans who so IMMISERATED the republic that that very party could crumble before the fascism of the Orange Pig. Pray for our sure salvation from these MONSTERS.

Bovino and his buddy Hott don’t believe in the Constitution even though they swore an oath to it. He is paid with our tax dollars.

When he was in congress he also voted against the ban on armor piercing bullets. One of a handful of congress members. This was the Firearms Owners protection act that banned them but in typical Reagan era fashion gutted the ATF where for subsequent decades had to function with paper files and bare bones computerization.

I wonder if the ICE folks at the dog park sniffed the dogs’ butts to identify those shelter dogs from Mexico.
