Destroying the legitimacy of the US Federal government with many citizens and the world is part of the autocratic play book.
After the destruction they will make the argument that only they can turn around what they in fact created, which, if they succeed, will come at the nasty end of a gun to those that disagree.

People immediately noted the irony in Hegseth being offed by a Viking axe, given his own attempt on a drummer’s life with the same weapon recently during a Fox News broadcast. “He drank too deeply of the Ale of Idiocy, and now he drinks deeply of the Ale of Regret”, said Mr. Bloodaxe in a post battle interview. “Don’t mess with the Danes, we are Troll-Wise”, he added, “We’ll split you in half like an open-faced sandwich and drink your blood like a bottle of Aalborg and not even give you the courtesy of a skål!”
