Ossoff Urges Businesses To Stop Donating To GA GOP Over Voting Restrictions

I’ve started reducing my routine checks of this site. All Gaetz all the time may be good for them, but I’m pretty well convinced that this is a tempest in a teapot and nothing will come of it. There’s far too much money and persuasion in the Gaetz family for this to go much farther than the revelations we already know.

Were this a Dem situation? It would already be over because the target would’ve already resigned.

The FBI has the receipts—and Gaetz’ father’s money won’t buy off the DoJ.

He’s going to prison.

“Corporations disgusted like we are with the disgraceful Voter Suppression bill should stop any financial support to Georgia’s Republican Party.”

Not being (only) a Georgia politician, I’d go further: Stop donating to all Republican candidates and PACs, not only in Georgia.

The threat this wave of legislation poses is nation-wide and so should the response be.

They should stop donating to Republicans in AZ and TX and other states where this is happening. They are so good about doing stuff afterward, why not before the laws are passed?!

“I absolutely oppose and reject any notion of boycotting Georgia… Corporations disgusted like we are with the disgraceful Voter Suppression bill should stop any financial support to Georgia’s Republican Party, which is abusing its power to make it harder for Americans to vote.”

This is perfect. I love this. It hits squarely at the problem. Do not punish all of Georgia for the deeds of its Republican legislators and governor.

That is how ALL issues should be handled by progressives.

But the publicity, and the effect it can have on people’s thinking, remains a good thing.

American Airlines came out yesterday against the Texas voter suppression bill.

They’re getting really cute here. There have been 14 state courts of appeal for a long time. They started out with jurisdiction over civil cases. In 1981 they got jurisdiction over criminal appeals too.

The Texas Leg is talking about getting rid of 7 of the courts of appeal just to wipe out Democratic gains in judgeships. I am flabbergasted.

Where are you Arthur? What say you Arthur? Or are you hiding out on your tax sheltered family trust ranch and private 18 hole golf course in Livingston, Montana…taxpayer funded conservation easement included.

Hey Arthur - should your football team be allowed to vote in Georgia?

Because profit is always their underlying goal, and they will pursue it in any way they can get away with.

Quite a few corp officers are scared shitless of progressive policies. They equate it to communism. Absurd, but that’s the view they hold. Oh and that white privilege thing.

And this should be a constant, universal Democratic, and (democratic), talking point. Rule of Law and democracy are the most basic “pro-business” position there is. After that, it’s all a crap shoot. The GQP is only pro-whatever-your-business-is, as long as you never criticize them; that’s no way to live. Amazon, for example, ought to have already tumbled to this after Trump’s behavior around the Washington Post and Amazon and the Post Office.

If the idea of crony capitalism doesn’t scare the ever-living-crap out of of the titans of American industry, then they’re morons.

yeah but some of them started to give again, only quietly…

I agree - and I think this lines up directly with Stacy Abrams’ message - she thinks boycotts mostly hurt working people and is not supporting them at this time.

Just what I had come here to post.

Stay tuned. It seems that it’s a running theme with GQP offenders of all stripes that these cases tend to disappear from the radar without explanation.

People are still trying to put Franken in prison, along with Hillary.

In our political system, virtue has a half-life, particularly where money is concerned. Still, if there is an immediate impact of the GOP being required to backtrack on all of the corrupt policy they are trying to enact, and they take this to heart as a “warning shot” that shows them that there really are limits to the strong arming they can do, at least that is a positive outcome. Even if that outcome is transient, it is useful.

O/T but a good read on what is happening overall.
