Originally published at: Oral Arguments Reveal Dangerous Haziness Around National Guard Powers
A panel of appellate judges spent considerable time Wednesday prodding at whether the National Guard troops currently deployed in American cities are subject to the Posse Comitatus Act (PCA) — a worrying sign of the ambiguity around what power the Guard has. The PCA prevents the military from doing law enforcement, a bulwark rooted in…
A little good news: National Guard in Chicago has been paused indefinitely. Sent the Texans ack home.
Maybe the no votes on Prop 50 haven’t been hit with prescription increases yet, but one of mine just went from $25.00 to $62.50. I don’t even know yet what the others will be. It didn’t take me long to get my Prop 50 vote sent in.
But Wednesday’s argument before a 9th Circuit of Appeals panel — composed of two Trump appointees and one Biden appointee — showed that the division is not so clear-cut.
Said the frogs in the boiling pot.
What’s clear is that these clowns want to take away our rights and enforce their totalitarian way of doing things because they believe that Democracy is a dead letter and cracking skulls is the path of least resistance.
If you get in their way, they will crack your skull wide open and watch you die. That’s what they believe in. They don’t believe in John Adams or Alexander Hamilton or any other American leader. They believe in Hitler and Putin and Mussolini. If you doubt this, and you’re looking for a “middle ground” where we all get along and come together then Adios. Caio. Nice knowing ya. None of that is happening. They are out to silence you and then destroy you. Congress can’t help you. The courts can’t help you. Those trains are gone. There is only one way to insist on Democrat rule and it’s going to be facing ugly. Because we have moved on from statesmanship. We’ve moved on from compromise. It’s every person for themselves. Unless I’m missing someone. Someone with the power to neutralize the deep and ugly cadre of true believers who intend to be led by an autocratic regime. So help me. Help me find one fucking Republican with the power to steer that shitshow away from autocracy.
So, how’s the Republican “We can’t talk unless Congress is in session and that bad budget bill was crammed down the Democrats’ throats” position working out for them?
Every day, without exception, NPR showcases multiple Republicans lying that only Democrats can break the impasse and rescue the American public by total capitulation. Er, voting “yes” and (heh, heh, heh) “trusting us” to later “negotiate.” Which we haven’t done for over 9 months and don’t wanna. Because His Royal Bigness is the only One we listen to.
Seriously? After they’ve tasted Chicago-style deep dish pizza??
CHICAGO (AP) — A federal judge in Chicago has agreed to extend a temporary restraining order banning the deployment of National Guard troops to Illinois by 30 days, hours before a temporary restraining order blocking the deployment was set to expire.
Lawyers for both the Department of Justice and the city of Chicago and state of Illinois convened for a phone conference earlier Wednesday. All parties agreed to the 30-day extension of the temporary restraining order granted two weeks ago by U.S. District Judge April Perry, which was set to expire Thursday.
snip…
Attorneys representing the Trump administration said in court filings Tuesday that they would agree to possibly extend the block on the deployment of troops for 30 days, which they indeed agreed to. However, they’re also continuing to ask the Supreme Court to intervene, pressing for an emergency order that would allow National Guard troops to be deployed.
“Every day this improper TRO (temporary restraining order) remains in effect imposes grievous and irreparable harm on the Executive,” Solicitor General D. John Sauer wrote in the Supreme Court filing Tuesday.
Lawyers representing Chicago and Illinois, meanwhile, have asked that the Supreme Court continue to block the deployment to the Chicago area, calling it a “dramatic step.”
I haven’t found anything about Texas National Guard.
Added: Some were sent home last week due to their appearance of being on the chunky side.
yeah they also reported that extending the subsidies would cost 350 beelion dollars over ten years.
In passing they added that the new dump admin has already added 1 treeelion dollars to the debt.
GREENE: “Zero communication. There’s zero planning, and we have no idea when we’re coming back, if we’re coming back. Everybody wants to work, and we can’t work.”
Hilarious!
Republican representatives think they’re still needed in government. If Trump doesn’t need them to run the government, why should Democrats?
As far as Lil’ Lindell tv being added to the Pentagon press pool, I expect serious mission creep, with Just Dance Vance wanting to inspect possible throw-up pillows for couches…
It is such a dilemma– NPR desperately needs support after Trump’s bullshit, yet NPR consistently normalizes Trumpism and takes R framing at face value. They don’t speak for me.
Wait a minute here. This story by Kate Riga says the 9th Circuit met again today? They reached their 2-1 decision to let the dotards goons continue their foul play yesterday and I thought we were just waiting on the en band panel of the 9th to take up the appeal. What’s going on here Beuller?
Is that increase tariff related?
Horrors! And later in the day, His Royal Travesty demanded that the Justice Department write him a check for 320 beellion dollars - in one shot! We need more outrage from our infotainment media. NPR is on its own now … no government support. (hint, hint…)
We need cats! But here’s another travesty: an artist’s conception of what the Gilded Dictator Ballroom will look like when done: Try to find the actual “White House” – and good luck with that.
From The Daily Beast:
Okay, this sounds dumb. But if lots of Democrats have remained in DC or returned, and a whole lot of Republicans came back, too, could they call themselves into session? I’m not betting on the likelihood of a majority of Republicans deciding they’d rather work for their salaries and perqs – getting paid for a near permanent vacation is what those guys aspire to! But theoretically?
Those poll results are really encouraging.
I hope you find some relief for your prescription pricing–that must be awful.
I have no idea, but the increase was sudden. Tariffs, less money for research, changes in insurance plans…. who knows.
