Ol Joe, lived close to UMC where I worked. One day I was buying a newspaper at the hospital lobby desk and was on my way to the cafeteria for lunch. A tap on my shoulder and I was asked by Joe’s body guard if I’d share a table with these two gents. How does one argue with an armed guy? I got a travel log of cool spots to visit in Sicily. I related my experiences there in 1970.
It was an interesting 45 minutes with Joe. I never approached his “business” feeling it safer to listen.

Which is why it may be worth the gamble of letting them have their way and letting the consequences of their incompetence and megalomaniacal hubris shine out for all to see. True MAGAs will never learn. They would have by now if they were capable of learning anything. There are some die-hard Republicans who will either switch sides, or not vote next time, and they are the ones who might save democracy by finally acting like rational adults.

Yep, I’ve had the same thought. For many years I was naive enough to think I could change the minds of people like MAGAs. One can’t. They have to get hit in the chops by a 2x4 to learn anything. As I’m writing this, my wife is reading that a 25% tariff on Mexico that may go in effect today will be disastrous according to economists. Someone did a focus group with MAGAs last night. They said, “He’s getting things done”. Oh, Jesus.
Also, rump may cancel a number of union contracts.

This is another instance where the wayleft contingents “wokeness” has come back to bite us all. In the attempt to show how open we are and tolerant of other “opinions” and “points of view” we harbor some really insane people who spout nonsense.
The left/progressive movement really needs to get enough backbone to stand up to nonsense and call it out. When “opinion” or “point of view” is based on illogic or plain old lies, it is necessary to call bullshit and mean it.

Well, it worked with Zuckerberg, didn’t it? There is no part of the law that Trump cannot twist to his advantage. This is his new approach. Have a fake lawsuit that he can bully people into conceding, and the money is laundered before going right into his bank. He really thinks we are stupid enough not to see through his shit. Or more likely, he does not care…it is marginally legal, not ethical at all, but that seems to be more fun for him anyway

Let’s call this what it is, the “Spoils System”, the handmaiden of Crony Capitalism, harkening back to the 19th Century (and early 20th). When the incoming political leadership replaced everyone with ‘their own people’. So what, another few country-crushing recessions like 1893 and 1929, perhaps repealing child labor laws and sending our police back to their primary historical duties of Pinkerton-like union-busting? It doesn’t matter if the meteorologist is qualified or not, as long as they tell us the weather is always sunny and warm under Trump.
You bet Louis XIV, the dude who thought of himself as the absolute monarch, so fuck democracy, or republicanism, or free expression.
