One Federal Judge’s Primal Scream About The Dramatic Erosion Of Voting Rights

When a judge writes nearly 300 pages in an order that may well be quickly overturned, they’re trying to send a message beyond the judicial action itself.

I had a nightmare.

In essence, he’s calling out the judges that will overturn his ruling, labeling them as the fascist racists that they are.

Flor a duh is lost for the democrats (state wide)- always close but no wins since Obama in 2012.
Sorry not including Nicki Fried’s position.

Throughout the searing ruling, the judge, an Obama appointee, also retold the history of racist terrorism and voter suppression in Florida and tied that history to the U.S. Supreme Court’s modern attacks on voting rights.

Sure enough, Justice Roberts was high as a kite when he voted to dismantle the VRA. He should hear how wrong he was, and have the consequences of his opinion driven into his conscience HARD until he is forced with another opportunity to rectify the damage to this country that he has caused.

The people who should be grieving are the millions of people who did not pay close enough attention and let the Right march on in in 2016 November.

Obama, whatever one can say about him in perspective, was a POTUS who left us a chance to continue his work.

Instead, what I saw at the 2016 Dem Convention told me that they–tragically–did not understand fully enough the Right, the Components of the Right, their use of communication and, most importantly, their persistence.

Thanks for this article, Matt. TPM’s coverage of voting rights is one of the (many) reasons I keep coming back here and paying a little bit besides.

“That,” Walker concluded, “the law does not permit.”

Yet, here we are. The bastards are still getting away with it.

Finally, someone is saying the quiet parts in a big voice.

Hope others jump on that bandwagon so that it can’t go back to being quiet. We need a groundswell since we can’t count on the Supreme Court to do the correct things (almost wrote “right”, but that is what they are doing in the wrong sense of the word).

I thought the same thing.

Walker’s decision will almost certainly not be the final word on the matter, given that Florida Republicans can appeal to the generally conservative 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the uber-conservative U.S. Supreme Court.

And this is why it no longer matters. The courts don’t care. They don’t care about this at all, in fact they strongly desire this so they can pay their benefactors back for all the largesse over the last decade or so.

This will not stand. Bet on it.

Agreed - and they’ll be proud to write those opinions and maybe even acknowledge that they’re fascists and racists and part of the movement to erode the Republic.

Yes, and then they’ll be rewarded with airtime on Faux.

We should just preemptively declare, asap, that we will win all statewide elections in Florida and can only lose if there’s massive election fraud.

Seriously though, if there’s any state that I suspect of routine pro-republican election fraud it’s Florida (2,000 presidential election for example). Makes me wish we had an honorable and non-ideological scotus that considered free and fair elections a fundamental right.

These people need to stop comparing the GQP Trump KKUlt to Archie Bunker:

The ultimate point of the show was that Archie was redeemable. The GQP Trump KKKult is 100% irredeemable. Nothing can justify forgiveness of them and they must be completely and utterly destroyed and subjugated.

Since the Civil War, he said, politicians have undermined Black Floridians’ voting rights — as part of a cynical effort to gain political advantage.

“That,” Walker concluded, “the law does not permit.”

Judge Walker may be right about what the law does not permit, but the Supreme Court, led by CJ Roberts, simply rejects the premise that politicians are undermining Black Floridians’ voting rights. As Chick Hearn used to say, “No harm, no foul.”

I always have trouble with your nuanced position.

This reminds me of the Hillary-will-win meter back in 2016.

That’s what Adam Laxalt is already saying in Nevada, months before the election. If he loses, the voting was rigged. All D votes from LV and Reno are suspect, all R rural votes are bonafide.

Mic drop moment…

Now, guess which 2 “democrats” are already on the phone with Big Pharma lobbyists negotiating their payout for blocking decriminalization of marijuana in the Senate. Guess…

This bill also includes process for expunging convictions and will justify Biden pardoning thousands of people locked up for non-violent marijuana offenses just to fee the private prison industry and ruin young black men’s lives. Sinema and Manchin MUST be called racist in every. single. public. reference. to. them. from now until the end of time. Just slip it in…save a few characters in every tweet, tack it onto every post, etc.

Sinema and Manchin are racists. It’s that easy. Feel free to copy and paste…
