By not “taking a side” when there is asymmetic polarization and one side argues and acts in bad faith, by “not taking a side,” journalists are, in effect, choosing a side.
Perhaps more importantly, if they can get most people to believe the federal government can’t do anything, then when they are in power, they don’t have to govern. Which in turn, just continues to dupe people into believing the federal government can’t do anything.
Day one, Biden and crew will need to be re-establishing our internal security. The current administration’s behavior reeks of us being compromised and some of that cooperatively. But we all knew that.
Fits perfectly with Dotard’s attempt to weaken NATO. If it walks like a treasonous duck and quacks like a treasonous duck . . .
Inside-the-beltway, bothsiderist circle jerkin’ ‘n pearl clutchin’ going in this piece, turned up to 11. Please spare us this bullshit. Without McConnell - and all the craven GOPers who know better - this would be a dIfferent story.
“Why cut a bad deal now when you could potentially be in the driver’s seat to write a real bill that effects real change in just a few months?” said Matt House, a former Schumer aide.
Everybody can read the writing on the wall that all the Dems have to do to get everything they want is just wait.
Absolutely!
It’s not so much TPM as (AP) disingenousness.
Yes, but my point is, by giving the lion’s share, or even all, of the coverage to republican responses, they ARE taking a side.
I don’t see any current or ex DNC heads being interviewed in this piece, but I do see Michael Steele’s quote. Sure, they ask Murray a question near the bottom, but the question, and her response, are peripheral to the heart of the article. The aides…and there they do ask one from both sides, are given as examples to back up Michael Steele’s assertion only…in other words, they asked Michael Steele for a story, and the wrote this around what he gave them.
I should probably state in fairness, that two of my candidates have had a run in with an AP reporter down here in FL. He basically called them and proceeded to ask them “Why are you running? You know you don’t have a chance!” ( I am not kidding, he literally asked and said that to both, along with a slew of other heavily RW slanted questions)…and then when they pushed back on that narrative, he immediately got perturbed and hung up.
So for right now, AP reporters are shit in my book.
Lets see if that spread widens once trump’s cult members realize he is more interested in staying in office than he is in keeping them alive.
I wonder who these unnamed officials are that leaked this story to the press because they certainly didn’t do Trump any favors. Is the “resistance” coming from inside the White House or an Intelligence agency?
“McConnell said Democrats refused to take him at his word”
Gee I wonder why. Just like when Mitch and his cabal of shitwits took 2 time popular vote winner President Obama “at his word” that he was not a secret muslim. Scummy school of stupid suckerfish.
Of course he is. It is part of the picture he wants to paint. He says what seems like wise words and everyone picks up the message and passes it on. This is gas lighting in process. Mitch is a pro at it. He is not doing it because he is driven to it like Trump is inherently, he is doing it as an actual tactic he thinks through.
Absolutely. I can remember NYT HRC stories where the only people asked to comment were Republicans.
Journalists are supposed to take sides—they’re supposed to take the side of truth, facts, and honesty.
Access “journalism” and fear of attacks from the right has diluted this concept until it has no meaning for 95% of so-called journalists.
Please fix the headline. They are not unable, they are unwilling (GOP Senate/MM)
I just can’t fathom the lack of outrage by the MSM. So what if it’s NATO and coalition troops. I don’t want ‘bounties’ placed on my Canadian, English, French, or Danish friends either. It appears that we only got around to telling our English allies this past week.
One of the biggest illusions in America is the idea of “objective journalism”, which is apparently some gold standard up in the sky
It compels people to look for something negative to say about the people who are on the right side of the issue. It is so baked into the cake that no amount of frosting can cover up the unpleasant flavor.
I think this was a different Steel - Boehner’s COS.
Not that there’s all that much difference, though I think it’s possible that Steele is an undercover member of Lincoln Project.
And neither one of them seems to care much for peepee.
This is an important point. Most people hear “congress” and think “the House of Representatives”. They don’t think “both houses of Congress”. Nobody refers to “the House of Senators”. This kind of phrasing almost automatically implies more blame on representatives.
And in this case, the Senate grudgingly produced a half-assed bill that they knew the the House of Representatives would want to amend and then blamed the Democrats for doing their job rather than rubber-stamping it, followed by the “democrats can’t get anything done, so donate to my campaign” nonsense that is the whole point of their existence.
