I saw that AOC just got a republican opponent in the next election that hails from Jamaica. Also a woman of color. First thing I thought of is what kind of cynical and totally dishonest bullshit are these Republicans up to, and who the fuck is gonna fall for that one?

Personally, I’m tired of seeing American flags flying in the back of pickups, on bumper stickers, on lapels, etc. The use of the flag by the right has tarnished its symbolism for me. Actually, I’ve felt this way since Vietnam.

One of the biggest mistakes the Left makes is to allow the simple, universally acknowledged symbols of patriotism – the flag, the anthem, and so on – become the political property of the bad guys.
I get it – you’re okay with that because you fear them.

Except that their “I got mine” usually means they got it from someone else, and not through strictly-honorable means.
I have said (more than once) that Texas should be allowed to secede – as long as it/they:
A) Rename it “Dumbfuckistan” (or maybe “Nuevo Aztlan”?)
B) Allow Austin (and other Blue parts) to move to the (real) United States
C) Build the Wall around the entire state
D) Prevent travel outside of its borders
E) Drop as many AR-15s (and similar) as possible inside The Wall
Wait about six months. Ask any survivors if they want to come back to the US. Allow them to do so, but ONLY if they promise to abide by certain rules, and ONLY if they can prove they’re not racists assholes.
To seize back patriotism from the right wing radicals. To say or do nothing is to cede the field of battle.

The Republican 2020 strategy is obviously to demonize a young, Muslim woman of color, though she is a sitting US Congresswoman who has sworn an oath to the Constitution.
It’s an overtly racist, deeply cynical and corrupt strategy. It’s immoral, frankly evil, and antithetical to all we stand for. And they will all fall in line. This election is an inflection point in our country’s history.
