Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) defeated a well-funded primary challenger on Tuesday in a final win for the progressive “Squad” of first-term Democratic congresswomen of color.
“The ‘suburban housewife’ will be voting for me,” Trump tweeted. “They want safety & are thrilled that I ended the long running program where low income housing would invade their neighborhood.”
I had to request an absentee ballot twice. I finally received one on the Friday before the primary, too late to be confident that it would be delivered by mail in a timely enough manner to be counted. So I hand-delivered it to City Hall in Saint Louis Park. I persisted and Omar won, the Squad persists and the 5th District won.
I dunno about Ilhan Omar, AOC & Rashida Tlaib, but if you read the news they were supposed to be fighting for their political lives and they all came at least 20 points ahead. There is nothing all that radical in their platforms it’s just that the right wing machinery chose them as an extraneous un-american threat to White Christian supremacy, and the the mainstream media ran away with the extremist label, although it doesn really fit. If you want extremist look at those QAnon believers, those thugs are a real threat to America.
I swear I can remember a couple of relatively recent cycles where yelling “radical left” over and over again didn’t work so well. If the radical left offers you affordable health insurance, makes sure you’ve got a decent job, and actually fights pandemics, it seems like most folks are good with it.
Unfortunate. Being ostensibly aligned with my preferred causes doesn’t mean a person is an effective representative in Congress. Omar is, IMHO, not an effective representative, and does more noisy, stupid harm than good.
(don’t live in her district any more, but I used to)
