OLC’s New Opinion on Executive Privilege Is a ‘Devious Tactic’ to Cover Up Trump Admin Corruption

The Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) put out a new opinion earlier this week arguing that President Donald Trump can assert executive privilege over communications with advisors even if they do not work at the White House or within the government at all. Experts tell TPM that the legal opinion is likely an…

What if, dining at Mar-a-Lago with Trump and he spills some top secret info, which he is prone to do and they repeat to people who should not hear it, still OK?

Trump’s Gift to the Money Launderers

DONALD TRUMP PROMISED Americans a new golden age. Unfortunately, it turns out to be a golden age for diarrhea and white-collar crime.

Biological, social, and financial parasites are flourishing, because the Trump administration has destroyed the institutional capacity necessary to detect and eradicate them

In the latest (non-GI-related) development, the Department of the Treasury announced this week that it would destroy the government’s registry of shell-company ownership. This is an anti-corruption database that Treasury is by law required to maintain, …

Even worse, the Trump administration will also destroy all the data it has already collected, so that no future presidential administration or local police department can use it, either. “It’s like Trump ordering the deletion of the FBI’s entire fingerprint database,” former congressman Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.), a champion of the 2021 law.

They’re effectively salting the earth, so that sex traffickers, scam artists, drug lords, money-launderers, and tax cheats can roam free not only through the end of Trump’s time in office but long after he’s out, too.

We’ve gone from “cry more, libs; the Trump reich will last 1000 years” to “asking me why I keep texting ‘CRIMES’ to all my coworkers is a microaggression” in eighteen months.

The corrupt SCOTUS will likely go along with this.

That’s all well and good, but what can Dems and legal entities do about it when he inevitably does point to this OLC memo? The captured press and media (TPM excluded, of course) will certainly uncritically report what OLC says.

What is the recourse here? How can we get out in front of MAGA’s desire to avoid any investigation and accountability? It’s fine to point and laugh at this OLC memo now, but that’s not good enough when the time comes and they stymie every attempt at oversight and accountability.

Someone once said that Trump’s head looks like a canned ham. I can’t get that image out of my head.

So, in spite of the constitutional power of impeachment, this president is immune to investigation?

"The court is absolutely under no obligation to defer to it, to give it special weight or anything of the kind.”

So why was the OLC opinion, from the Nixon administration, that the President can’t be prosecuted while in office considered to be a significant bar for the Muller investigation?

That he got 27% of the vote is fucking hilarious haha

If the gov’t won’t protect us, we will protect us. That’s just the natural way of it, not advocacy of it. Ultimately, there will come a snap point.

This Cone of Silence purports to insulate communications between his WH advisors like Stephen Miller along with anyone in the chain of command that remotely relates to presidential decisions and ANYBODY ELSE ON THE PLANET! The most transparent administration ever . . . .

We have come to expect this, although probably not 100%, because Republicans operate in lock step (yes, the Fascist 6 are Republicans more than they are justices).

The overall point is that unless there is serious reform of SCOTUS and the justice system, nothing will change in this country, to its great damage.
