Despite, well you know, there’s a lot to celebrate in America. Like the national anthem written as a drinking song n England.

But it may come as a surprise to some that the tune of The Star-Spangled Banner was written this side of the pond and has deep connections to Gloucester.

John Stafford Smith originally wrote the tune as a drinking song, with words written during a war between Britain and the US later paired with it.

Gloucester Cathedral’s assistant director of music said it felt “extra special” to play the tune at the cathedral.

“Why does the right hate our religious freedoms?”
Phrases you won’t hear uttered on Fox News.

Happy Fourth.

St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School is going to be a tuition-free, online, K-12 institution. On the plus side students won’t have nuns wacking their knuckles with rulers for misbehaving. On the negative side the lack of involvement with other students means they probably won’t be able to meet prom dates or get a decent k-12 education.

Sounds like a way for some diocese in Oklahoma City to scam some money out of the state. .That will show those damn Baptists.

[religious schools] cannot be denied generally available aid solely due to their religious status.

So, you can’t discriminate against religious schools, but you can discriminate against taxpayers who don’t believe in religion.

The program was unconstitutional, the majority wrote, because it was not neutral toward religion

The Court isn’t neutral toward religion. It’s biased toward it.

A majority of today’s justices tend to favor the “accommodationist” interpretation of the First Amendment, meaning they largely reject the idea that it demands a “wall of separation” between church and state, so long as the government is not privileging one faith over another.

But the government is privileging all religion over no religion. Originally, Christianity did not exist.

freedom to practice religion without fear of governmental intervention

Government funding is government intervention.

MSNBC has been catching Hell the last 24 hours over Nicole Wallace jumping on the “Biden must resign” bandwagon. People are telling everyone to boycott and ignore the Corporate Media. I have to agree, but Lawrence O’Donnell was GREAT last night at destroying the notion that Biden will drop out. President Biden will be on National TV this weekend doing interviews and ceremonies.

Power.

It’s a story that goes way, way back. In England, I believe the king made himself the head of the church.

Apparently, the US President has the power to do the same thing. Biden never would. Trump probably has Stephen Miller working on it right now.

Question: What would Trump do if a mega-church preacher condemned him? Celebrate freedom and diversity?

Zelensky Brutally Shuts Down Tucker Carlson Interview Talk (msn.com)
The denial comes hours after Carlson, a former Fox News host, said it “looks like we’ve got the Zelensky interview.”

“We’ve been trying for two years, and with particular intensity after interviewing [President Vladimir] Putin in February,” he said on X, formerly Twitter.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has shut down speculation that he is set to be interviewed by conservative pundit Tucker Carlson.

“Mr. Tucker Carlson should check his FSB sources more carefully. The president of Ukraine has a completely different schedule, and Tucker Carlson is not on it,” presidential spokesperson Sergii Nykyforov said in a statement on Thursday, referring to Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).
