The Oklahoma legislature continued the red state one-upmanship Thursday, passing a bill that would outlaw nearly every abortion in the state.
The bill has exceptions for saving the life of the woman, and if the pregnancy is a product of rape or incest — but requires that the crime have been reported to law enforcement.
So basically no exception for incest then and only partial exception for rape (most incest is also rape).
Also this “life of the woman” is so open-ended. If a woman has a 50-50 chance of survival is that enough to warrant a life-saving procedure?
I am starting to worry about these laws the Repubs are passing.
I am in my seventies and I would like to know if I will need a vasectomy reversal?
Next they’ll outlaw masturbation becuz when the thrill comes it kills half a baby.
So damn glad I left my home state decades ago
They are banning abortion before actual pregnancy - at fertilization. The cells have not implanted in the uterus, and no placenta exists. Fertilization does not always result in a pregnancy. Gah!
Oklahoma lawmakers pass bill banning abortion after fertilization - The Washington Post
We need to stop playing by Right To Life rules. This is more than an abortion ban, this is a ban on the most prevalent forms of contraception under the control of women. Although hormonal BC, IUDs and the morning after pill all prevent fertilization as a primary means of contraception, they also interfere with implantation if the egg is fertilized. RTLers have long declared all of these to be antiabortionists and under this law all would be illegal. It’s time to start saying it like it is, Oklahoma has passed a bill to outlaw contraception.
If an embryo, which has no thoughts, is human, then so is a human who has no thoughts. It seems to me that in Oklahoma, those who are brain dead are required to be kept alive. End of life decisions have all been decided by the legislature. In Oklahoma, all humans must be kept alive as long as possible, using whatever means possible, except of course those condemned to die at the hand of the state.
Just saying.
Does anyone know if this new law includes a “Republican official who cheats on his wife and knocks up his aide, intern, or secretary” exception, or is that just implied as usual?
All of this is going to end up back at the Supreme Court. Every aspect of it. If they thought that overturning Roe was a one-and-done, they’ll soon be disabused of that notion
Let the women of Oklahoma do something about it, but of course they wont (save for a few who will be wielding banners in places where they wont inconvenience anyone).
Oklahoma Republicans have a hard enough time finding a woman who will marry them. So when they cheat it’s usually with a sheep or chicken if they can catch one.
What makes you think, that was their thoughts? On the contrary they have been signaling that it’s only the beginning.
on abortion
Didn’t realize I’d need to qualify that
And so today, Oklahoma takes the United States one more giant step BACKWARDS toward a theocratic dictatorship that victimizes and penalizes women.
Shame on all Oklahoma Rethuglicans.
Maybe also because NC is thiiiiiiis close to flipping from red to blue
So are the Oklahoma State Police going to investigate every single miscarriage to make sure they are “legitimate” miscarries? Or just allow some rando person sue if they think some woman’s miscarriage is not legitimate?
And the State is going to increase funding for pre or post natal care? Because they are so pro-life?
This Twitter thread, from a woman in Texas, appeared in my feed this morning. What’s described here is inevitable for Oklahoma and for any other state that passes such laws. Here’s the text of the first tweet:
“This morning, in a FB group I’m in, a woman told us she is having a miscarriage. Her doctor prescribed misoprostol to help her complete the miscarriage. The doctor had to spend 30 minutes explaining to a Walgreens pharmacist that she wasn’t having an abortion.”

Not even in that. They are hoping to get a case where the outcome is going to be that abortion can be banned nationally.
Unless it costs too much money- ie your meds cost more than a buck or two a year, then the state will not cover you, and it’s in God’s hands how long you live.
I am so sick of the pro-lifers wanting to control everyone’s lives.
