Legislation concerning voting procedures for the delayed Ohio presidential primary has passed unanimously in the Republican-controlled state Senate and House and is bound for a signature from Gov. Mike DeWine (R).
Among the most foreseeable of the unintended consequences of the coronavirus state of emergency is that the Republican Party will seize every opportunity to rig elections.
Mr. Brickner, of the voting rights group, lays it out in stark terms:
“The voter has to do everything perfectly, the board of election has to do everything perfectly, the mail has to be delivered perfectly for everything to work … This … is really not good for voters.”
You’d almost think that Republicans wanted it to fail.
He’d previously sent a letter to lawmakers telling them that it was not realistic to get ballots into the hands of voters and give them ample time to return them before June 2. He also warned of the unconstitutionality of forcing voters to pay for their right to vote, in the form of postage.
SOS LaRose should just do the right thing and send out all the ballots automatically.
Party or Country Mr LaRose - its your turn to decide which side you are on.
Who could have imagined such chaos when the primary was cancelled? I remember some Democrats in Ohio and on TPM supporting Dewine’s decision to delay the primary. Great move people! Every other state that put off the primary will undergo some form of this.
Hard to miss that if the vote was unanimous, that means the Democrats voted for it too! In fact, Cleveland.com reports they were part of framing the bill, which included a number of other provisions. So much for a dime’s worth of difference.
Georgia is doing the same. First sending out an application for a ballot, which has to be filled in and returned with one’s own stamp. Only then will be an actual ballot be sent. No discussion at all about how long it will take to review millions of returned forms. No disagreement at all in Georgia. This was announced as fait accompli. I don’t understand why they can’t just sent out a ballot. I assume they are making it difficult as they can, so many won’t or can’t do it and therefore won’t vote.
First, I don’t see how the Gov and Sec of State are split. They wanted the same thing. It’s the legislature that disagreed. Second, all the comments are anti-right, but the Ohio Dem Party wants the April 28 deadline and all dems in the legislature voted for it. The only elected officials that wanted it on June 2 were the Gov and Sec of State, both republicans…
