Ohio Governor Announces Expanded Effort To Deal With An Election Problem That Does not Exist

Ohio’s Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose joined MAGA Republicans and Trump allies in sounding the non-citizen voting alarms ahead of 2024, announcing a new initiative to remove non-citizens from the voter rolls in Ohio — a solution to a Republican manufactured problem.

Just going to put this here.

Going on a campaign to purge 0.002 percent of the voter rolls is not going to get you into higher office either Mr. LaRose. You’ll always be the distant third place finalist.

This is the crux: Republican leadership knows this is not a problem but must be a problem because (a) the largely illegitimate civic doubts they have intentionally fed have come back to bite them and (b) they are unable to fix real problems regardless so might as well manufacture problems they can then pretend to fix. Predictable.

Increasingly in recent times we have come first to identify the remedy that is most agreeable, most convenient, most in accord with major pecuniary or political interest, the one that reflects our available faculty for action; then we move from the remedy so available or desired back to a cause to which that remedy is relevant. – John Kenneth Galbraith (1986)

The Republicans however no longer require or even desire a real cause or a real fix either: Choosing to live on Bullshit Mountain has consequences, real ones; who would have thought.

No matter how cynical you get, it’s impossible to keep up.” ― Lily Tomlin

Ney - here in my state, NC, the idiots in the Senate just voted for a bill to make it illegal to wear a mask in public - for ANY reason. You have the flu and don’t want to spread it - tough, that’s illegal. Are you immunocompromised and need to avoid getting an infection - tough, that’s illegal.

They MIGHT make an exception for medical reasons.

The author of the bill said he would have done this in 2020 to keep people from wearing masks to avoid COVID but he wasn’t elected yet.

Twice a non-citizen, forever a non-citizen?

If we go by the actual pattern of illegal voting so far, most of them would have voted R anyway.
Let them bluster about a non-existent problem, we’ll be OK.

How did these non-citizens get registered to vote in the first place? Should the MAGAts attention not be placed on each Secretary of State, who controls all voter registrations? If “illegals” are registering by the tens of thousands as Republicans claim, that requires legal action taken against those people, most of whom are Republicans!

This is just fucking stupid. The right really has absolutely no ideas and they’re not even pretending anymore. The upside, of course, is that if the bird flu that is decimating mammals across the globe from sea lions to cattle jumps to humans, we will no longer have to worry about the right any longer.

Let’s face it, people voting who aren’t citizens, the weaponization of the judiciary by the Dems, woke trans people, the Bowling Green massacre, the Pismo Beach disaster, and I could go on. We need to get real American politicians who can get make America great again.

How did we lose Ohio? Abandoned by the corporations, they should have flooded the Democratic Party.

I guess those rules about media monopolies should have stood. Enraging the people you broke using the money you made breaking them.

That is exactly the issue here, and not being highlighted enough. Last year, about 18,000 people in Ohio became permanent residents. The majority of these eventually get citizenship, so one would estimate that at least 10,000 people in Ohio got citizenship last year, or about 800 per month. You will always find people on the voter rolls who until very recently were not citizens.

And our media are too stupid to push back or even ask the right kind of questions.

Maybe they should spend their time ensuring that the incumbent President appears on their November ballot.

An obscure provision of Ohio law could keep Biden off the ballot there in November (sfgate.com)

The only time in recent memory that Ohio did not break for the winner of the presidential election (Electoral College version) was 2020. Ohio is extremely swingy.

But how many of them actual voted?

Secretary of State’s Public Integrity Division and Office of Data Analytics and Archives identified 137 possible non-citizen voters through records from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

“The data found 137 voter registrations assigned to Ohio residents who have twice confirmed their non-citizenship status to the BMV,”

I suspect it may be fewer than that.

The 137 identified were residents who had confirmed non-citizenship status to the BMV at least twice.

The problem appears to be the Republican administration of the government. Ohio voters should hold Republicans responsible for their failure and vote a Democratic ticket.

Earlier this week, LaRose announced an expanded effort to remove non-citizens from the voting rolls

Next week, he’ll say it’s been completely solved by him personally.

The part that’s missing here is 137 out of how many total votes?

More than likely, it’s not even a tenth of one percent of the total needed to overturn an election.

I hope so. Every time I hear someone say ‘flyover states’ or ‘the rust belt’ I want to puke. These are real people that have been abandoned by capitalism and are now being roused to fascism by the same POSs that broke their backs.
