Republicans in Ohio’s House of Representatives moved Wednesday to limit the authority of state Health Department Director Amy Acton, who has been criticized by those chafing under the COVID mitigation orders in recent weeks.

In general Democratic governors, whether from red states or blue states have done a decent to great job during this Pandemic. Republican Governors from blue states have also done fine jobs. Governor Dewine from Ohio and Governor Holcombe from Indiana are the two Republican governors from Red states which have done a good jobs as well. They took it seriously early on, haven’t pandered to the base and are being careful in how they ease restrictions. Now even they are getting idiotic blowback from Republcian legislatures and tea baggers.

More and more every day the Republican Party base seems to be evolving as the party of Death - Guarantors Of Plague?

“Acton in the public interest” is more like it.

“One of the bills they passed would limit health department orders to 14 days before requiring approval from at least six lawmakers on a 10-member panel.”

Either they have personal gain involved or they want to kill people. No need to put anymore thought to it. The Republicans have the same act, same tune, same results.

When we come up with the list of honorable republicans, people who will have a reputation once Trump goes to jail, it will be very short. DeWine makes the list, Romney, Justin Amish, Larry Hogan, and Richard Spenser (former navy secretary, not the white supremacist).

I have racked my brain, can’t come up with anyone else who has been even remotely honorable.

Rep. Nino Vitale (R) called her a “globalist,” a common antisemitic codeword used by some on the right. Acton is Jewish.

“Your basic human rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness do not come from an unelected Globalist Health Director, who signed the order in the dark of night,” he wrote on Facebook.

“Make no mistake,” he continued, “she’s coming for your hams!”

You’d be forgiven for thinking that these people are actively and purposely trying to destroy the country. Words fail me.

Gov. Mike DeWine (R), who has been vocal in his defense of Acton, signaled a veto should the Republican-controlled Senate also pass the legislation.

Someone is finally making DeWine earn his salary, that’s for sure.

AIPAC - this is your party!

Yes, that’s true – but in fact AIPAC owns both parties.

that compared an idea Acton entertained, about giving out certificates to those who recovered from coronavirus, to Nazi Germany.

I’d entertain giving out certificates of willful ignorance to members of a certain political party.

Being as the climate thread is removed, this is going to have to go here:

Minnesota’s Great River Energy closing coal plant, switching to two-thirds wind power

The state’s second-largest electricity provider is closing its Coal Creek Station in North Dakota, one of the largest coal electricity plants in the Upper Midwest

The reasons are mostly due to economic and financial reasons. Hey, this plant has a coal mine on its property and still can’t make money. Winning!

Some who are no longer with us – Bush the Not-As-Bad, John McCain.

All too many names I used to respect have been conspicuous mostly by their silence (hello, George Shultz, hello Bob Dole), but maybe that has to do with age.

True, but AIPAC has been trending conservative (pro-Netanyahu) while J-Street is developing into a moderate-liberal alternative.

Yep. I’ve seen it here in PA too. They tried to sidestep the Governor back in April, but he was able to kill it.
