Next comes the mandatory display of pink triangles when outdoors.

Conservative cancel culture involves cancelling the constitution.

They’ve long since cancelled respect for others and for differing viewpoints. Now they’ve moved on to bigger things.

Truly amazing that something like this would happen in a high wealth, heavily conservative enclave.

“I don’t want a kid picking up a book, whether it’s about homosexuality or heterosexuality, and reading about how to hook up sexually in our libraries,” Glenn said.

Ok, so why does hooking up in libraries immediately occur to this guy? Just wondering.

And to any school employees who might have different political beliefs, Glenn said, “You better hide it.”

IOW: Get with the pogrom.

So, he’s ok with giving children guns, but don’t dare teach the about S-E-X!! As Lenny Bruce famously remarked, “We can’t let kids see two people making love; they might want to do that when they grow up!” As far as removing LGBTQ materials, this further shows Mr. Glenn’s homophobia and ignorance about those who are different from him.

No kidding. We’re just a short step away from the repubs accusing liberals of being anti-putin and pro-democracy. smh

He noted that members of Granbury’s school board — his bosses — were also very conservative. And to any school employees who might have different political beliefs, Glenn said, “You better hide it,” adding, “Here in this community, we’re going to be conservative.”

There is nothing conservative about fascist extremism.

Can confirm that Hood is a shithole county. Unfortunately, any remedies under federal law go through Reed O’Connor and the Fifth Circuit, so don’t expect anything to be done about this.

“Cancel Culture” and “Censorship” all begin with “C’s!”

I can’t think of a single time history has looked favorably on banning books. It’s always ‘conservatives’ who want to do it to uphold their values and beliefs. What nobody asks them is, why aren’t your values and beliefs sustainable against other ideas? If they’re so great, why do people turn away from them when exposed to ideas about compassion, tolerance, acceptance and fairness?

If you only have one source of information that source will form your ideas. That’s how the USSR and modern day RF work. It’s the reason FOX news exists. If you yank information from kids then give them what you want you own their minds and that’s what this is about. They aren’t being educated in North Texas they’re being prepped to be what “conservatives” want them to be. In the end that will blow up.

It’s un American but you can do it here. However it’s destined to fail.

The “fuck your feelings” crowd are pretty successful in expressing their feelings.

“There are people who want to tear down values and force theirs and then also force acceptance,” Monica Brown

No Ms. Brown, thats what you’re doing. A book with a gay protagonist in the library isn’t forcing you to accept anything. Do Agatha Christie novels force acceptance of strychnine poisoning? On second thought, don’t answer that.

Before we get too deep into writing off the community of Granville, I want to highlight the LGBTQ+ kids who are speaking out and standing up for each other. They didn’t choose their hometown and they have a fundamental right to an education- an education where they are safe and accepted for who they are. We ought to go to bat for them. It’s too bad there wasn’t a link to their tshirts.

Post-Nazi Germany banned Mein Kampf for decades, and it still has serious restrictions on Nazi materials and Holocaust denialism. And I’m totally fine with that. I think it was Mill in On Liberty who predicated his idea of free and unrestricted discourse on a society having been sufficiently matured that it can handle bad speech with more good speech. WWII and the Holocaust demonstrated pretty conclusively that Germany can’t just handle Nazis with reasoned discourse, so they’re out.

To the contrary, most 20th century book banning was done by far-left communist and other radicals regimes. Counter-revolutionary books and ideas are prohibited, Comrade.

I am always amazed when I learn about a radical anti gay person’s crusade against a community is later identified as potentially affiliated with self-loathing because the person has remained in the closet.
