Of Course A Guy Running For Santos’ Seat Is A Jan 6-er

A man who has filed to run in 2024 for the seat held, up until last Friday, by ex-Rep. George Santos (R-NY) was found guilty of crimes related to the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol this week.

The way things are going Grillo will probably get elected to replace Santos
I’d post a nice kitty image to make this all warm n fuzzy but my laptop is in the repair shop.

Somehow, given both the district’s demographics and Grillo’s colorful legal past, I don’t think we have to worry too much that he’ll be elected. That he even thinks he’s electable, though–that is concerning.

Didn’t Mr. Grillo have reason to believe his visit to the Capitol was a stepping stone to a higher position?

… and his lawyers argued he was under the impression that he was allowed to behave how he did that day.

“Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because, if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, 'cause I’ve worked in a lot of offices and I tell you people do that all the time.”

During the trial, Grill claimed he had “no idea” that Congress met in the Capitol building — even though he is running for Congress — and his lawyers argued he was under the impression that he was allowed to behave how he did that day.

Kevin McCarthy uses PAC to lavish cash on high-end resorts, private jets and fine dining

Well, the Supreme Court Justices get free luxury junkets paid by donors, what wrong with using PAC money for some fun.

Grillo seems dumb enough to ask for a price check at a Dollar store so, admittedly, he would fit right in with Republicans like Boebert, Jordan, et al. And there are certainly districts that would elect him too (looking at you Georgia 14th) but I suspect the NY 3rd isn’t one of them particularly after the embarrassment of the Santos/Devolder/Kitara experience.

The fun part at least for us Mexicans is that this guy has the perfect name for a politician. Politicians in Mexican slang are called “grillos” which means “crickets”, because they are noisy, annoying and don’t seem to produce any benefit.

Maybe those voters will read their local paper this time.

Neither the first nor the last GOP’er to confuse election with insurrection. (Note from the prosodists: those are feminine rhymes, if that’s any excuse. But there is no excuse.)

it is unclear if he will still be able to run for Santos’ seat

There’s law, and there’s order.

Republicans ignore both.

Grillo’s house must have a bit of a smell since his people defecated and urinated in our Capitol.

I’m sure that Grillo was so confident of his pending election to the House, he was only checking out potential office space

Hmmmm, seems “learning disorder” comes to mind…

As long as he’s campaigning, he can’t be sentenced for any crime, and certainly can’t be incarcerated. That’s his plan, totally in line with what his Fearless Leader’s lawyers are telling us all.

Why not? It’s American tradition to run for elective office from jail. Eugene Debs did it in 1920 when running for president.

It’s really not an American tradition though. I would be willing to bet that neither Trump nor Grillo has any idea who Debs is (and Trump would be mortified to learn Debs campaigned from jail).

When I was in Chiapas state an election happened. Politicians would put up posters and such and by the next day we’d see “Grillo” scrawled across the poster.

I don’t envy billionaires with their luxury states and private jets and yachts. I envy you. You had the youth I wish I had, but I was too bound by family expectations. In three/four years time I will have fulfilled what I consider the last of my family obligations, and I am going on a trip, and I am not stopping until I am unable to walk.
