I agree. I view the Superman/Batman/mainstream-hero-in-general prohibitions to be unrealistic. Too often, the hero says ‘I don’t want to become like them’, which is naive in the extreme.
The same applies to holding your fire to appear ‘better’ than the opposition. I understand that point of view, but where is the evidence that it works?
People of conscience will never become like the rotten apples in the GOP. We should speak loudly and often.

Well, I agree, he did some good things but, like every other president, he had his flaws. For example, there was that “Spanish-American” unpleasantness, which moved Mark Twain to observe that TR was …
“clearly insane … and insanest upon war and its supreme glories.”

Exceptional circumstances require exceptional responses. OTOH, I understand that I DON’T understand what it’s like to be black, and how the “angry black man” meme might play to one’s disadvantage. Despite what I said above about responding loudly, I try not to presume too much.
