New York City is set to close its public school system — the largest in the nation — on Monday in an effort to halt the spread of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
Illinois has not only called off school, but closed all bars and restaurants for dining in (you can still order delivery, takeout, or curbside pickup). This is real, folks.
Watching Trump’s press conference today, I started wondering about the logistics of committing a severely psychotic person against his or her will to a mental health facility. How is it done? How many people does it take to get that person under their physical control? I assume you try persuasion first, but in the last resort there are more assertive means.
All about flattening the curve at this point because the Do-Nothing-Orange-Incompetent-WH-Occupant delayed early mitigation and disbanded the WH Pandemic Team!
Meanwhile, Nunes is urging “healthy people to go out…”
What an irresponsible advice!
ICYMI: Know the symptoms and other Covid-19 graphics
“I’m very reticent to shut down schools for a variety of reasons,” de Blasio said. “Not just because that’s where a lot of kids get their only good meals, where they get adult supervision, especially teenagers, who otherwise would be out on the streets.”
I remember when schools were the place kids got an education, too.
I had to rush my little boy to urgent care today (per the triage nurse’s telephone instructions) for a serious bacterial infection, which (“dammit!”) was just about the worst place for anyone to be right now, and as I was waiting for his prescription to be filled at a drug store, I overheard a couple of elderly, Fox-watching employees complain about how “this coronavirus thing is all political” and “we’re being played!”
As they re-stocked shelves barehanded.
And repeatedly touched their faces.
All I could think was: They’re going to be some of the first to die…
But only after they asymptomatically infect hundreds – if not thousands – of others.
The Regime is schizophrenic. It’s very odd to observe Fauci correctly contradicting Trump at every one of these pressers. It’s like a Monty Python skit.
I hope all is well, and he gets better fast with no return visits to urgent care. Or anywhere near those idiot pharmacy employees (how the hell did they get hired)?
Watched the de Blasio press conference. There is so much to consider, amid totally unchartered waters. That was a tough decision, he did the right thing. Teach in rural/northern WI. We have school Mon, Tues. Trying to emotionally brace myself. Schools do quite a bit, besides “just education”. Everything from feeding kids, providing mental health care, hearing screenings, to providing school supplies. Even my “tough kids” are going to be upset about the closings. Thinking Tues. may be the last day of the year.
Oh my goodness. I hope he mends fast. Taking your little one in to urgent care sucks at the best of times - now would be an especially scary time to go in.
Michigan schools shut down for three weeks though in some wealthier communities like Birmingham I see they are closing for four weeks. CDC actually says it should be longer.
The South Bend Tribune reports that a couple of restaurants will have only takeout/curbside service, but the article goes on to report that many restaurants are beefing up their sanitation practices and stationing hand sanitizers prominently. More than one restaurateur was quoted as urging people to go out to eat. Indiana now has 19 confirmed cases, at least one each in St. Joseph and LaPorte counties (my region.)
(Schools here closed Friday.)
